Our Teachers

Brad Stoller has worked with youth and adults in theater, dance and contact
improvisation for over 20 years. He is an award-winning playwright and
teaches play writing in the Young Writers' Summer Program at UVA. Brad is a
certified teacher of the Alexander Technique (a movement re-education work)
and holds a black belt in Aikido and an MFA in play writing from UVA. He
lives in Charlottesville with his family where he pursues the practice of
dance and theater as part of playbackcharlottesville and The
Improfessionals.

Ken Manheimer practices contact improv as an antidote to the static of daily
life. He has taught extended CI courses for local enthusiasts (in the
Washington, DC area where he lives) and sporadically leads informal and
formal workshops in various places on invitation. Always a participant and
an earnest student of the form, Ken is particularly interested in the art of
finding connected, vital dances. He has studied with Nancy Stark Smith,
Andrew de Lotbinière Harwood, Martin Keogh, Lisa Nelson, Karen Nelson,
Kirstie Simpson, and others. Ken writes informally about contact improv on
his website: http://myriadicity.net/Sundry/ContactImprovisation

Our Organizers

Nancy Saylor-Lane lives in Lexington, Virginia where she is the director of
Halestone, a dance studio dedicated to moving arts exploration and education
for children and adults. In 2002 she founded The Community Dance Connection
Theatre (The CDCT), a performance company for dancers of all ages and
experience levels as an incubator for original choreography and as an
educational dance-link within Rockbridge County. Now in its fifth year and
fully established, The CDCT has over 40 members of community women and men,
boys and girls who, in conjunction with professional artists from Rockbridge
and beyond, stage multi media concert events of their original work.

Steven Michael Harris has been doing contact improv for 20 years. His
³lecture² on writing could also be called a show and has been seen by
approximately one million students and teachers. It is an author's
appearance regarding the children's book he authored - This Is My Trunk
(Atheneum, 1985). He was the youngest singing ringmaster in the history of
Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus as well as a clown there. As
an original cast member of the hit Broadway musical Barnum, he wrote comedic
material incorporated as a popular part of the show. He has appeared in
comedy nightclubs and on TV in various ways: Late Night With David
Letterman, The Tony Awards Presentations, and various daytime dramas and
commercials. He has also toured as a musician (vocal and instrumental). His
current avocation concerns the science and philosophy of the mind and
nervous system as he writes numerous essays about those issues.
