Doesn't anyone know how to rename a mailing list?

Would this be a valid procedure:

1- Change the "public name" and other list configurations.
2- Change the mailing list aliases (in sendmail).
3- Rename file/links/etc. under the archives directory.

or do I have to create a new list, export/import members, and do a
move_list? The docs and FAQ don't mention this. Am I the first person to
rename a mailing list?
