That's because it's wrong :)

At one time we were indexing all the mailing list archives, but we had
to turn that off when we ran out of disk space.  We've since cleared
enough disk space to turn the indexer back on, so you should see the
list archive collection button return soon.  (Please allow some time
for the indexer to trawl the almost 5GB of public archives ;).

When it's re-enabled, http://www.python.org/search will be the URL you
want.
