Assuming you are using MM's builtin pipermail archiver normal practice
would be to prepend the content of mbox file containing the old material to
the mbox archive of the MM list (usually
$prefix/archive/private/<listname>.mbox/<listname>.mbox) and then run the
MM script $prefix/bin/arch. This will build HTML archives for the list
including the old material.
