[Mailman-Users] Standard address protocol for joining by email?

I checked the FAQ and found no entry for this. I assume it 
is probably a very standard question so admins may want to 
add to the FAQ.

Is there a standard address protocol for list members who 
wish to join a mailman list by email without using the web 
form? I have tried 'join-listname at domain.com' and it didn't 
install as a joining address on mailman.
