The confustion was the difference in ownership, some owner mailman
some root.

Corrected that and gave all database/* g+w

The next mail got archived this time!

There is still an error message:
 [Errno 13] Permission de
nied: '/usr/local/mailman/archives/private/OURLIST/pipermail.pck'
