[Matplotlib-users] 3.0 upgrade

This has all been fixed in https://github.com/matplotlib/matplotlib/pull/12241 <https://github.com/matplotlib/matplotlib/pull/12241>.  It was definitely a bug in 3.0.0, and will be fixed in 3.0.1 when it is released.
