I think you may be onto a good topic here, rather than asking for specific things maybe we can expand this to be about learning resources for someone new.
If you're entirely new to programming I've found that this book is pretty solid (it's not only for kids):

It helps you get set up and gives you a direction along with general background you may need.
If you're not, perhaps something like:
