[Python-africa] International Data Week – IDW2018 & SCIDataCon-IDW2018 , 5th - 8th Gaborone, 2018

It was good meeting some of you at the African Conference on Fundamental Physics & Application ACP 2018 https://www.africanschoolofphysics.org/acp/ in Windhoek, Namibia last month

Just to let you know, Africa through Botswana and University of Botswana is hosting this year’s International Data Week - http://www.internationaldataweek.org/ and the collocated SciDataCon - https://www.scidatacon.org/IDW2018/
This is in partnership with International Science Council (ICSU)’S Committee on Data (CODATA) - http://www.codata.org/  & World Data System (WDS) - https://www.icsu-wds.org/ , Research Data Alliance (RDA) - https://www.rd-alliance.org/

There has been an over 70 Sessions accepted https://www.scidatacon.org/IDW2018/sessions/ across multiple cross cutting data themes https://www.scidatacon.org/conference/IDW2018/conference_themes_and_scope/ , and numerous papers have been submitted through https://www.scidatacon.org/conference/IDW2018/call_for_papers/

There will be pre-conference training including

1.      data science, artificial intelligence & visualization,

2.      Software & Data Carpentries

3.      eResearch/Research Infrastructures

4.      Research Data Management

5.      Drones for Science – A data Collection Week and a 2-day X-athon

6.      Making Data Sharing Work Workshop etc.
And RDA, WDS AND CODATA Working Group Meetings


If your community is keen to also hold a python & data session at IDW 2018 &SCIDataCon-IDW2018 – let us know – and maybe you can coordinate with us at University of Botswana Computer Science on  Python communities and Botswana nodes
