Personally I think it would be a good thing for CPython to better support
both embedded systems and cross compilation in general.  I think that
many improvements that would make it better for embedded use would
also make it better for general use (such as improved startup time).
I also think we have a dearth of active core committers with experience
in cross compilation.

Paul, if this is a particular itch/knowledge area for you, maybe you
could do some spade work on the relevant issues, and see if we can get
some movement on them?  If we can get some good patches accepted from
one or more people with interest in this area, maybe we can get some
people with relevant knowledge onto the development team.
