But that is *not* your call!  It's for the would-be contributor to
decide, because they're the one to decide whether to take the offer.

Sure.  That doesn't mean there wouldn't be more people to take up the
offer if it didn't implicitly deprecate the value of their time.

The issue here is not the reality of "value of choice", it's whether
would-be developers *perceive* the "price" negatively or not.  If they
don't, or can easily be convinced that it makes sense, great!

Unfortunately the point is moot at the moment.
