But that's what this list is for, proposing changes.  Technically
speaking, random "why not" ideas belong on python-list.  Nobody's
going to make a big deal of it, especially when you're injecting the
idea into a related existing thread.  *But* you should expect somebody
assume you're actually proposing something, and to follow up by
explaining "why not" in detail if you post such ideas here.

If you don't really have anything invested in the idea, I would
recommend just saying, "OK, and thank you for the detailed
explanation.  I learned a lot."  (N.B. That's what you actually did
end up saying!)
