  Ok, I've taken a look at the current version of the documentation:

This appears to be correct judging from the content of this
discussion.  Perhaps you're using an older version of the
documentation?  The current documentation was released 22 March 2000.
You can read or download the current version at:

	http://www.python.org/doc/current/

The HTML version of the package can be used to update documentation
that shipped with the Windows installer.
