XML/XSLT for newbies

All the documentation I have been able to find on how to do xsl
transformation assumes you have ASP,VB,JAVA or such. Does anyone know
of learning resources for xml/xsl in python?

In particular, I would like to be able to do things such as display a
graphic image depending on the text value of an element.

All help greatly appreciated.
