Python for Industrial Control

Hi,
I am really interested in using Python to control GPIB and USB
controlled instrumentation. I have had success with GPIB, however, I
have some test equipment that can be controlled via a USB interface. I
have searched around the web and found items relating to USB enabled
web cams and digital cameras. I am guessing that my solution can at
least use these programs as a starting point.
I would like to hear from anyone who does use USB from Linux to
control any sort of industrial device. What were your experiences in
getting it to work?.
I am also in the process of putting together a test excutive, written
in Python, to automate production testing. I have been working in this
field for more years than I care to remember and I have came across
many offerings from many companies. Maybe it is time for an open
source version?.
Thanks
RjK
