Bonsoir Pythonistas,
Hope we all had a great week and enjoyed the weekend. *clears throat* I
write to bring you guys gists of how the launch of #PyLadiesNigeria went.
First of thanks to the PSF *#SupportingPythonistasSinceTimeImmemorial* and
UpperLink Nigeria for generously giving us a very conducive space to host
our event. We couldn't have done it without them. A massive shout out to my
co-organizer @TomiwaOrlu for a great job in making sure the event went
smooth.
We started off by introducing ourselves, talked about our experiences, what
we hoped to learn/achieve on an individual basis from subsequent PyLadies
meetups an generally just got to know ourselves. We had a rich mix of
amazing ladies from Obiamaka who's in the travel industry to Tomiwa in
Quality control Hamdalah and Mercy (DG Ota and Akure organizers
respectively) and a host of many other interesting ladies.
What was thrilling and amazing was we had guys from the PyNigeria community
#PyMen (*honestly that's what they called themselves*) who came to support
and encourage us. When Chukwudi #ichux came to inspire us and assure us of
his ever non failing support for the group while we learnt from his truck
load of 12 years experience as a python developer, Osas #Oxax gave a lot of
helpful tips on how we might go about achieving our learning objectives and
suggested a lot of helpful resources and overcoming the fear of being stuck
in the learning phase. We were also honored to receive a lot of love from
Olamilekan #eMergency who came all the way from Ibadan to support us, and
his wealth of suggestions, tips and advice was amazing. We also had
Emmanuel join us from the R users meetup group. It was a rich confluence of
amazing people showing support to PyLadies.
In a nutshell our interests centered around Data science, S/W design
network, web design e.t.c we hope to form our subsequent meetup timetables
covering various topics in this area and more.
And there you go........ how Pyladies launch went.
Wishing everyone a pythonic week ahead.
Until I come your way again.......Odabo *in my not so Yoruba voice*
Aisha
