Dear Pythonistas,
I am pleased to announce that the website for our community has been
launched, and can be accessed from the following URL:
http://pythonnigeria.org/
Appreciations are in order to our community members who volunteered to get
this up and running: notably *Biola Oyeniyi* (@b33sama) and *David Ekpo*
(@ekpo-d) who did the front-end design and development; and *Kingsley
Ogechukwu* (@kingsley), who earlier designed the official logo of the
community. We also recognize the good intentions of Tejumade Afonja
(@tejaf_) and Isaac Oluwatemilorun (@akiolisa) who showed interest in
helping out as well.
As members of the community, we welcome you to send contributions and/or
pull requests (PRs) to make this better in any way. The Github repository
for the website is at: https://github.com/pyung/community-site/tree/develop
More information on this can be obtained from the *#dev* channel of our
Slack <http://https//pythonnigeria.slack.com>.
Needless to say, a working, online portal comes with a number of advantages
for us as a community. Just to name a few: it puts us within easier reach
of potential members; it is important for maintaining correspondence with
other organizations; and it provides a go-to place to learn about the
community, events, and developments. We are glad to have crossed this
bridge, and we encourage everyone to keep working to grow the community.
We have subsequently updated our information at
https://wiki.python.org/moin/LocalUserGroups#Nigeria to reflect this
development.
Finally, I would like to bring your attention to the appointment of Biola
Oyeniyi -- one of the Board members -- as *IT Manager*. We are confident he
is a right fit for the position, given his continuous show of technical
know-how: from helping out community members with technical challenges to
playing a vital role in bringing to life the community's first website.
More good news to come your way as the Smart Girls Project in which we
partner with the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative (CYFI) soon gets
underway. We also thank all our members who have indicated interest, and
have taken necessary steps towards participating.
Keep been creative!
Your secretary,
