Component manager.  Which while older than ASLM (it appeared with QuickTime
in System 6 time) has outlasted ASLM (Open Transport was recently (finally)
rewritten away from ASLM).

Mac OS X is a different ballgame...I don't know whether Component Manager
found its way in or was replaced.
