OK, I just tried this too. After a vanilla install, If I double click
the interpreter, the window comes up right away, but it can be 10-20
seconds! before I get the prompt.

I'm running a very new Dual 867Mhz G4, OS-X version 10.2.1

EditPythonPrefs take a while to start up as well.

Like Neil, if I disable site-Python, it only takes a second to see the
prompt. By the way, I don't seem to ahve a site-python file anywhere
anyway. Where should it be? and is the lack of one the problem?

With site-python disabled, it's a lot faster, but still at least a
second delay. Why might this be? Unix-python starts up essentially
instantly.

Side note: I can't move the EditPythonPrefs dialog around at all. Is
this still standard Carbon behaviour? Yuck! Also, the layout of the
radio button of the Startup Options dialog is pretty bad under OS-X, the
buttons overlap each other and obscure some of the text.

Sorry, I don't have a single processor machine to test on at the moment.
