I think that the fact that OS 10.1 does not come with Python built in, and
10.2 does, should be the determinant here. There's really no point in going
to a huge amount of trouble to be compatible for an OS where ordinary users
have to do their own Python installation, IMO. I know that almost all of you
here have been using just such installations, because you had to, for years.
But now that Apple's OS ships with Python, I would have thought that 100% of
the effort should be devoted to that OS, and to getting new versions of
Python ready to be incorporated in each new major OS version that ships
(e.g. OS 10.3). Just my opinion, of course: there may be factors I know
nothing about which play a part.
