Hmmm. That's a good argument to retain BuildApplet in some form.
You probably haven't received bug reports because

You're probably right.
I will defintely be working more deeply with py2app because I'm planning
to rewrite one or more of my AppleScript Studio applications in Python.
Even though those will be open-source applications, they will be
targeted at end users, and I will definitely want to create truly
portable standalone apps with py2app.
