So I now realise that there was a previous report of this last year (so
probably nothing to do with this OSX version). The diagnosis then was to
do with the firewall.
In my case, I did have a firewall problem initially, which was causing
the databases not to be found. So I set the appropriate http proxy in my
environment.plist as instructed and it was then that the databases were
found but caused the 'unspecified error while parsing'.
If I download the database files and point to them locally rather than
pointing to their URLs I get the same problem.
Which leaves me at a bit of a loss. Any other things I should try?
