Initial Comment:
I think I've narrowed this down - it appears that the 
database is lost when I shut down Windows and it 
closes Outlook as part of the shutdown process. If I 
close Outlook myself, the database is retained.

Thanks for your report.  This bug has previously been reported,
and has already been fixed in the source-code - so you can expect
to see the fix in the next binary release.

version of the source-code, and you should find the fix
