Doesn't Scipy have the Fermi-Dirac distribution?

I am a graduate school student. Nowadays I'm writing a semiconductor simulation code with numpy and scipy. In my field, the Fermi-Dirac distribution function is frequently used. I hope to know if the scipy has the Fermi-Dirac distribution function or not. Have a nice day~! ^o^

scipy print using ipython

Hello, I am using the fmin_l_bfgs_b function in scipy. This function has a parameter for controling the iteration printing during the minimization. In fact the printing is done by the fortran routine via a command like: write (6,1002) iter,f,sbgnrm which is a print on the screen. For some reason I don't understand, when I use the routine in ipython, the print is done only by bunch of lines every few minutes... just like if it was bufferized before printing. Hints for easy install of scipy on RHEL 4?

We installed scipy on RHEL 4 using the "built in" blas/lapack. Much of it works but some components that we need fail, apparently because RedHat's blas/lapack is incomplete. So...can anyone point me to an existing RPM of a complete blas/lapack (or a complete Atlas) that we can just use? Google showed lots of RPMs but they didn't appear to be for RedHat Enterprise Linux and I'm not unix-savvy enough to know what alternatives we can get away with. -- Russell

Error on trying to install SciPy

Hi everyone, sorry to be a bother but I'm getting really frustrated with trying to install SciPy. When I build or install this is what it tells me before it exits. Anyone have a clue why this would be? I REALLY appreciate any help. Hi, In the past: (scipy 0.4.8, numpy 0.9.6) >>> print scipy.c_[1,2,3] [1,2,3] but now: (scipy 0.5.2, numpy 1.0.1) >>> print scipy.c_[1,2,3] [[1,2,3]] A nested array! This breaks my old code because: >>> array = scipy.c_[1,2,3] >>> print array[1] IndexError: index is out of bounds Is the current behaviour expected? Hi all, I want to make array A from array B like so: A[t, j, k] = \sum_i B[t, j, i] B[t, i, k] That is, for each t A[t,] = dot(B[t,], B[t,]) There's no loopless way to do this in numpy, right? Thanks much, Anand

parallel usage of fftw

Hello, I've read at http://www.fftw.org/fftw3_doc/Usage-of-Multi_002dthreaded-FFTW.html#Usage-o… that getting fftw to use multiple threads to speed up performance on SMP machines is quite easy to initiate. Has anyone used tried this? I haven't ever used fftw without scipy, but if there were some way to easily implement a python interface such that fftw_init_threads(), fftw_plan_with_nthreads(), and fftw_cleanup_threads() could be called, it would be really cool. I'm having a bit of a time trying to figure out how fftpack is married to fftw ... maybe I should just try calling those functions with ctypes? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Glen

Windows binary 0.5.2 requires SSE2

Hi! I have installed SciPy 0.5.2 for Python 2.5 on several Windows computers, using the precompiled binary scipy-0.5.2.win32-py2.5.exe. This works fine on some, but on others it crashes Python with an Illegal Instruction exception. The crash is easy to find by running the test() suite or by attempting to make any use of scipy.integrate.quad. Digging into it, I see that the exception comes from _quadpack.pyd, and it dies at a MOVSD instruction. I believe MOVSD is an SSE2 instruction that is only implemented on the more recent CPUs from both Intel and AMD. Has anyone out there compiled win32 binaries for Python 2.5 and older CPUs without SSE2? If so, could I beg for a copy? If not, I'll dig into getting set up to compile SciPy myself.
