Can someone assist in fixing my install?

I was trying to get SSL working and in attempting that I moved my "data" 
Directory and played with the permissions.
My install has stopped working. Can someone tell me where the data 
directory is supposed to live? I thought it was in
/var/www - but I'm not to sure anymore.

Also - how can I reset the permissions back to the defaults form the install??
