[Mailman-Users] deleting mailing lists

i am a user of mailman and i have been adiminstering a couple of mailing lists.  i needed to delete one of them however, people are still trying to post to that list.  i tried to post to that list to see what happens and i did not get any kind of notification that the list is no longer in existence.  what happens to e-mails being posted to lists that have been deleted?
