A security vulnerability in the docassemble code base with high severity has been found by a third-party security researcher. Please upgrade any public-facing docassemble servers to version 1.4.98 as soon as possible by going to Package Management and clicking Upgrade. You do not need to do a system upgrade (upgrading the Python packages using Package Management is sufficient), although the jhpyle/docassemble image on docker.io has been patched if you want to upgrade through Docker.

Hello everyone, I recently came across this program while at the LSC ITC last week. I work for Maricopa County Superior Court and create the forms/automated systems for the Court. We are currently looking into alternatives for automated doc assembly programs other than our current program. In order for this to be presented to the higher-ups, they would want to know the cost associated with the program, as that was an issue we ran into with A2J Author and having to host with LHI and hotdocs. I would need to know what the tech requirements would be for hosting this program and any suggestions for platforms that other people have used with success and estimated cost. Docacon 2021 taking place on November 30

The annual docassemble conference, Docacon, will take place on Tuesday, November 30 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. eastern time. This year the conference will be a brief on-line "meetup"-style event featuring a series of short presentations by docassemble power users Scott Cumming, Quinten Steenhuis, David Bain, and others. There will also be time at the beginning to talk with other attendees at "tables" to discuss topics including visual design, customization, automated testing, and other topics of interest. We will be using the Remo platform for the conference. (If you haven't attended a Remo event before, it is a pretty fun platform.) Upgrade procedure for 1.2.68

Version 1.2.68 is now available, and this version contains upgrades of many dependency packages. Unfortunately, the latest versions of Python's pip installer will hang trying to install the upgrade; pip will run at 100% CPU for hours (maybe days), possibly running out of memory. Apparently, this is a "feature" of pip and not a "bug." It relates to the new way that pip resolves dependency conflicts. There actually are no dependency conflicts with version 1.2.68, and pip can install docassemble.webapp and all of its dependencies without a problem in an empty virtual environment. The presence of older versions of dependencies on the system triggers code in pip that causes it to effectively hang. The solution to this problem is to use an earlier version of pip. Version 1.2.68 now states a dependency on pip==20.1.1. However, if you press "Upgrade" on the Package Management page, docassemble will use its current version of pip (which is likely newer than 20.1.1) and it will hang before version 20.1.1 can be installed. THEREFORE, before you press the "Upgrade" button, go to Package Management, enter pip==20.1.1 into the "Package on PyPI" field, then click "Update." This will install version 20.1.1 of pip on your system. Then click the "Upgrade" button to upgrade docassemble to 1.2.68. Hopefully, in the next few months, the developers of pip will figure out a way to resolve dependencies in a way that doesn't hang the machine, and we will not need to run a downgraded version of pip forever.

A security vulnerability has been discovered in the docassemble code base. Please upgrade your servers to version 1.2.65 as soon as possible. To upgrade your server, log in as an administrator, go to Package Management, and press the Upgrade button. (Note: a "system upgrade" involving updating the Docker image is not necessary.) If your server is on version 1.0.11 or earlier, upgrade to 1.0.12 instead of 1.2.65. Thank you, Jonathan Pyle

User interface upgrade in 0.2.50

docassemble users -- Version 0.2.50, which was just released, contains an upgrade of the user interface from Bootstrap 3.3 to Bootstrap 4.0.0. This means that when you upgrade to 0.2.50, the user interface will look significantly different. Your screen may also render incorrectly until you do Ctrl-shift-R or Shift-F5 to force a complete reload. If you have written any custom CSS, you may need to rewrite your CSS to adapt to the changes. You can now use any of the Bootstrap 4 themes at https://bootswatch.com/ and other sites (see the bootstrap theme Configuration directive).
