weave.test() fails

When I run >>> weave.test() I get a bunch of error and output ... Ran 107 test in 25.298s FAILED (errors=9) I am runing Python 2.2.1 and I installed weave-0.2.3.win32. When I tried >>> os.system('gcc -v') I got NameError: name 'os' is not defined. I am new to Python and weave. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

ANN: Freetype wrapper for Chaco

Hey group, I have a wrapper for freetype ready for public consumption. It's pretty dirt simple in terms of features and will be used for text rendering in Chaco. This release works pretty well in my tests. Notes and downloads are available here: http://www.scipy.org/site_content/freetype Also, you can get it from the CVS by checking out either 'chaco' or 'freetype'. The freetype extension is created with weave, but you don't have to have weave to build it -- I've bundled all the files in the source distribution. >From here we need to improve its speed and auto-detection of system fonts/settings. The rendering quality could also use some help. So, this is a request for help -- especially on Unix platforms. If you have experience with fonts on Unix please help get the system font detection in order. I've only tested on Windows, but I have built/imported it on Linux so you should be able to try things out there without much trouble. Anyone with Freetype experience is invited to improve the rendering quality and add outline caching to improve speed. By the way. Lets keep discussion on scipy-dev(a)scipy.org for now instead of scipy-chaco. We're not up to the traffic level yet to justify the separate list. Thanks, eric

[ERR] build problems with fastumath

Dear scipy gurus When compiling scipy (SciPy-0.2.0_alpha_103.3602), I get the following error: gcc -DNDEBUG -g -O3 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fPIC -I/usr/local/include/python2.2 -c /home/tinu/download/SciPy-0.2.0_alpha_103.3602/scipy_base/fastumathmodule.c -o build/temp.linux-i686-2.2/fastumathmodule.o /home/tinu/download/SciPy-0.2.0_alpha_103.3602/scipy_base/fastumathmodule.c:27: fastumath_nounsigned.inc: No such file or directory error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 Indeed no file named fastumath_nounsigned.inc exists in the distribution. Where do I get it from (or do I overlook something)? scipy on irix -- problems with bsplines

SciPy builds failed in the signal module when trying to build on an SGI system. Has anyone seen the following error when building something on IRIX with gcc 2.95.2? 25 sgi> gcc -c C_bspline_util.c C_bspline_util.c: In function `C_IIR_order1': C_bspline_util.c:28: Unable to access real part of complex value in a hard register on this target 26 sgi> gcc -c Z_bspline_util.c 27 sgi> It happens in several of the bspline files for complex values, but not for double complex. The good news is, other than this problem, SciPy builds on IRIX using gcc and linking to the blas and scs(lapack) platform specific libraries. I also tried building python with MIPSPro C compiler and then SciPy using The MIPSPro compiler suite. The python build worked fine after getting readline issues sorted out, and it appeared to work fine. However, python core dumped in the middle of building the flapack wrappers with f2py, so it looks like something is working quite right in the python build. I'd like to get this working, so if anyone has built SciPy/Python entirely with MIPSPro, fill me in on the secrets. Thanks, eric
