Rebuild is a nice idea, but a lot more work would need to be done to make it work reliably (or rather, fail gracefully and report sane errors when it *can't* work reliably). Getting this to work properly really has nothing to do with nevow, although nevow does exacerbate some problems with it. I'd recommend just manually restarting the server during development for now.

All, Do the nevow rend.Page and athena.LivePage co-operate with the t.p.u.reload mechanism? For various reasons I don't want to stop the process to reload the changes I've made to disk and .py templates, but would like to be able to reload them. Thoughts?

Why cannot find twisted.web packages?

Hi all, I am new to twisted and just came this maillist,have not recieved any mails till now.This is as a test. My twisted2.0 came with SuSE10.0 installation box.The packages I had are not the same as those in the documentations of twisted online.

Question about the Big picture

I just received a advertisement for a new book "TurboGears", a python web application server. There sure are a lot of these approach/communities focused on python. So what's the 40k foot view of the menagerie. (i understand this question is a bit abstract). Implementing hanging get with twisted web

Hi all, I had a question about implementing hanging-gets. A hanging get is basically when the server "hangs" onto the http request until either a certain period of time or until there is an event is triggered. It is a hack for implementing event driven messaging on top of HTTP. Alex Russell references it in his blog: http://alex.dojotoolkit.org/?p=545 What's the best way to implement hanging-gets using twisted? I have a web page that I want to immediately update everytime there is a change to the data. Making asynchronous javascript requests every second do not really make sense, but I was thinking that if the javascript continually made asynchronous requests to the server and the server implemented hanging-gets, then that would be a good solution. Any thoughts are appreciated. Cheers, Joe

Not only does it work, but we are trying to move towards that being the suggested style, as it generally has superior error-handling characteristics. It would be really nice to get issues with it fixed, and even if this isn't a real problem, document it as a possible "gotcha" so people do not feel uneasy about taking this approach. So.. got a unit test? :)

How to insert an Athena event handler using Stan?

Hi all. I've got some LiveElements in an Athena page to which I want to attach event handlers. Their XHTML is stan-based. What I've got right now (which works) is something like this, which I've understood is the Right Way to do it if you're explicitly using inline Javascript: _js = ( "Nevow.Athena.Widget.get(this).keyPressed(this, event); " + "return false;" ) docFactory = loaders.stan ( T.div ( render = T.directive ( 'liveElement' ), ) [ "Blah Text Label", T.input ( type = "text", _class = "sw-input", onkeyup = _js, ), T.div ( _class = "sw-output" ) [ "Blah More Text" ], ] ) There are messages in the mailing list (for example, from JP on October 11th 2006) recommending that one should use the athena:handler feature, like this: <textarea> <athena:handler event="onkeypress" handler="keyPressed" /> </textarea> However, if one has stan-based rather than file-based XHTML, it's neither documented nor obvious how this should be done. I've managed to get this far: from nevow import stan ... _athena = stan.Proto ( 'athena:handler event="onkeypress" handler="keyPressed"' ) ... T.input ( type = "text", _class = "sw-input" ) [ _athena ] This serialises OK, but it doesn't work, because the node doesn't get rewritten; that is, the generated XHTML contains the athena:handler node verbatim. Now, rewriteEventHandlerNodes() in Nevow/nevow/athena.py (around line 962) seems to traverse the tree looking for athena:handler nodes and replacing them with "Nevow.Athena.Widget.handleEvent()" Javascript, so I presume that the node I'm creating fails to get identified as an athena:handler node because I'm creating it incorrectly. What is the correct way to create such a node such that it gets picked up by rewriteEventHandlerNodes()? Regards, Ricky
