Hi there. This should be easy to fix, and I may be wrong (I'm just learning Python), but I believe the behavior of negative list (in this case, string) indices is such that a[-1] returns the *last* element, not the second-last. However, near the bottom of the Strings section of Chapter 3 of the official tutorial (link <http://docs.python.org/tutorial/introduction.html#strings>) is a section and table regarding this, conflicts with itself: the ASCII table near the very bottom lists the indices wrong! Thank you for your help, and I do apologize if I am mistaken, but I'm fairly sure I'm right. :)

Bug in documentation of os.mkdir()

The web page http://docs.python.org/library/os.html#file-object-creation does not specify what os.mkdir() does if the directory already exists. Documentation error for conditional expressions?

The conditional expression documentation says: conditional_expression ::= or_test ["if" or_test "else" expression] I've stared at this and the PEP, and I''m pretty sure that the first or_test should be an expression, not an or_test. In an expression like "x if C else y", x and y are expressions and C is the or_test. The documentation in question is at http://docs.python.org/reference/expressions.html#conditional-expressions Ken

Add reference

Hi In MS visual studio I use add reference to add the COM or API of drivers ... to MS visual studio. In Python what is the equivalent way to add reference? For example: I have USB GPIB card from National instrument. I installed visa and IEEE488.2 drivers that have GPIB driver. Now in Python, how do I used function built in visa or IEEE488.2 to write read instrument that runs on GPIB? Thanks Chanh

Can't we use C types in the function prototype and Python types in the description?
