Newbie question about chaining deffereds

Hello, I need to download a videofile, a thumbnail to it, process that videofile, and after the processing is finished, process the thumbnail with the result of processing the video. I do this, but it the logic (or the order) is wrong, so it does not work, it freezes after processing the video, while it downloads both of the files: url = 'http://..../video.flv' filename = 'video.flv' video_deffered = downloadPage(url, filename) video_deffered.addCallback(process_video, filename) => process_video returns video_id url = 'http://..../thumbnail.jpg' filename = 'thumbnail.jpg' image_deffered = downloadPage(url, filename) image_deffered.chainDeffered(video_deffered) image_deffered.addCallback(process_image, filename) =< video_id needed here What should I change for it to work? And also I need to make process_video and process_image work in threads, but I can't figure out how to solve this problem first.

twisted web write to a connection closed from client-side

Hi, I have a problem: twisted does not indicate/throw exception when user has stopped reading the stream via "STOP" browser button (I guess it won't do in any other case of connection drop). Is this intended behavior and is there any way to detect that the data written to request goes nowhere? I am using twisted web to write HTTP stream that is read form asynchronous source continuously. I'm using Resource and NOT_READY_YET, then I just do request.write() infinitely until, and if, the source stops the stream, then do request.finish(). If the source does not stop and I stop the stream by hitting browser "stop" button - the twisted server continues reading source infinitely. Could not find any information about how connection resets are handled by twisted web

I see that such a panel discussion is being formed -- just hoping that someone in Twisted was invited ... were they? (Actually, I'd like to see both Formless *and* Nevow Forms represented, if possible. :) Steve

Connection lost in a non-clean fashion

I have developed a web server based on twisted-web that acts as a gateway between the SRU search protocol and the Z39.50 search protocol. ( Details at http://www.loc.gov/z3950/agency/ ) Each SRU search request opens a thread which performs a Z39.50 search on a remote target and then returns the results which are converted into the SRU response. Sometimes the connection with the client issuing the SRU request is lost. In a few cases this produces the message "Connection to the other side was lost in a non-clean fashion: Connection lost. ". When several of these non-clean connection losses occur the web server will become unresponsive and will not respond to any new requests. Can anyone help with how I should respond to these non-clean lost connections ?. I can't find any documentation which helps me understand the impact of this type of error. As the connection is lost there is no point in returning any error response, but are there systems resources left allocated which might be causing the server to become unresponsive. [Athena] Is ReliableMessageDelivery really necessary?

Hi, I've hit a problem as my app has got bigger (about 30-40 widgets now, all chattering roughly once every 2 seconds) where the reliable message delivery mechanism is spiralling out of control. It seems that the constant back and forth means that large 'baskets' of messages are resent. The more this happens, the busier everything gets until the browser becomes unresponsive. There's a fix for it: [Divmod-dev] athena duplicate messages issue but I'm slightly concerned about the potential for lost messages - and also confused about how this could happen. Given that HTTP is a reliable connection-oriented transport, where is the gap that messages can fall through? I think I can cope with lost messages in most cases, so would it be useful to add a kind of 'sendRemote' that was like 'callRemote' but didn't care about a response? Or maybe this already exists and I've missed it? Paul. P.S. this app is likely to get more noisy - is it likely that I'll have to abandon Athena for Orbited or similar? I mean, are there architectural differences that will prevent Athena scaling?

= Twisted 9.0.0 = I'm happy to announce Twisted 9, the first (and last) release of Twisted in 2009. The previous release was Twisted 8.2 in December of 2008. Given that, a lot has changed! This release supports Python 2.3 through Python 2.6, though it is the last one that will support Python 2.3. The next release will support only Python 2.4 and above.
