Hello yt users,
I tried to use the LightRay class to generate a light ray for one of my gridded simulation snapshots. The simulation is from the FIRE project which used a heavily modified version of Gadget-3 called GIZMO written by Phil Hopkins. And the error I got is: ValueError: need more than 1 value to unpack.
Here is my script:
$ python

Dear Suoqing JI:
I tried with both factor=1 and deleting the ::factor (yt_frb_offaxis.py)
but the same issue still persist (L(1,0,0) N(0,1,1).png). The only
difference being that without the "factor" it takes longer time to compute
than for a "factor=20".
For same data if I use "slc.annoate_streamline" gives approximately proper
results (UniformGridData_Slice_y_field_x_t000.png) but without the offaxis
Any suggestions.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I am trying to use yt to analyze some data in a remote supercomputer. I
can launch yt notebook in the login node and forward the port to my local
computer so that I can view the results in my local web browser. However,
when I submit an interactive job in the compute node, I can only forward
the port to the login node. Do you know anyway to forward the port again to
my local computer so that I can still use jupyter notebook in my web
browser to look at the data?
Thank you.

Hi all,
I'm trying to build an AMR in yt in spherical coordinates. I was able
to it in the following code. But I have a couple of questions.
There is something I don't understand: except for the level 0 grid,
the right_edge arrays seems to be useless...
In addition, as you can notice the number of grids in theta direction
increased as a factor of 5. Is there a way to preserve the number of
grid in theta (and in phi) from level 0 to level 1?
import numpy as np
import yt
refine_by=5
top_grid_dim = [100, 10, 2]
n1=100
n2=10
n3=2
grid_data = [
dict(left_edge = [0.0, 0.0, 0.0],
right_edge = [1.0, np.pi, np.pi*2.],
level = 0,
dimensions = [n1, n2, n3]),
dict(left_edge = [0., 0., 0.],
right_edge = [0.5, np.pi, np.pi*2.],
level = 1,
dimensions = [n1, n2*refine_by, n3*refine_by]),
]
for g in grid_data:
g["density"] = (np.random.random(g["dimensions"]), "g/cm**3")
ds = yt.load_amr_grids(grid_data, top_grid_dim ,
geometry='spherical', refine_by=refine_by, length_unit='kpc')
ds.print_stats()
yt.SlicePlot(ds, 'phi', 'density').save()
yt.SlicePlot(ds, 'theta', 'density').save()
yt.SlicePlot(ds, 'r', 'density').save()

Hi all,
I'm trying to read ZEUS-MP 2 data, and I'm building my programs step
by step. I was able to load data regularly spaced in spherical
coordinates. However, I actually have a non-uniform radial grid.
I tried with the script in attachment, but I have got odd errors...
Also, I have found this page, is it relevant for my case (just because
my code is mentioned, the answer would be yes :) )?
https://bitbucket.org/yt_analysis/grid_data_format
Thanks,
Andrea

Dear Suoqing Ji:
Thank you. Can I use the same script for my 2d streamline plots?
I used plt.streamplot(X[::factor, ::factor], Y[::factor, ::factor],
U[::factor, ::factor], V[::factor, ::factor],norm='True') but the issue
still persist with normalization (script yt_frb_offaxis.py and plot
L(1,0,0) N(0,1,1).png).
Without the off axis slice the streamline plot looks proper
(UniformGridData_Slice_y_field_x_t000.png)
Thanks in advance

Dear Suoqing Ji:
Thank you. Can I use the same script for my 2d streamline plots?
I used plt.streamplot(X[::factor, ::factor], Y[::factor, ::factor],
U[::factor, ::factor], V[::factor, ::factor],norm='True') but the issue
still persist with normalization (script yt_frb_offaxis.py and plot
L(1,0,0) N(0,1,1).png).
Without the off axis slice the streamline plot looks proper
(UniformGridData_Slice_y_field_x_t000.png)
Thanks in advance

Dear Suoqing Ji:
I was able to include the off axis using frb options (script
yt_frb_offaxis.py on drive link)
But it gives me a plot with its edges chopped. For example L(1,0,0)
N(0,1,1).png and L(1,0,1) N(0,1,1).png have empty cells on the edges. I
should not have empty cells as all of the cells are filled like L(1,0,0)
N(0,0,1).png. Since only the viewing angle is changed it should still fill
all the cells.
I tried it for different angles as well but there are always some empty
cells present for every off axis slices.
Can you suggest wherein these edges are not empty and have quiver vectors?
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
the interface between zeus and yt is almost completed. This is a first
version, and it not efficient, since it requires interpolation on
different grids. However, it is a starting point.
I still have a major issue: my handmade code to interpolate ZEUS data
on a series of grids seems to work well. However, in yt I'm not able
to plot the entire r grid, but just the first patch (the most internal
one). I don't know how the GDF handle the AMR grid, I just explored
the data I have found on this page http://yt-project.org/data/
Can anyone help me? In attachment you will find all my scripts, plus
data and a README. You should be able to see the problem from the
picture produced by the script.
Many thanks,
Andrea

Hi Everyone!
The yt community is proud to announce the release of yt Hub 1.0.
The yt Hub (https://hub.yt) is an environment where data can be
published, analyzed and shared with other people. The yt Hub relies on
multiple open source microservices that are loosely coupled together. At
its core we utilize:
* Girder - as a data management platform (https://girder.hub.yt)
* Jupyter Notebook - for interactive data exploration
* Curldrop - for a quick and easy data sharing
* MediaGoblin - for a quick and easy image sharing
We encourage you to view this short video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uq_3uT7JHGA to see how we integrated
Girder with Jupyter Notebook or read https://docs.hub.yt/girder.html
Each authenticated user (Google, Bitbucket, or GitHub) is provided with
10GB of free space that can be used for uploading data sets and sharing
them with other people. We plan to gradually increase the storage
capacity of the Hub. Additionally, we're developing a process for
sharing of large, community-provided data sets. If your data
requirements exceed the current limit, please don't hesitate to contact
us directly so that we can develop a plan to integrate your data in an
efficient way.
Over time we plan to expand the capabilities of the existing services
and add new ones. A short set of documentation describing the current
services and what you can do with them can be found at https://docs.hub.yt/
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or run into any trouble
please don't hesitate to send a message to the mailing list or stop by
our IRC channel.
We thank the National Science Foundation (ACI-1535651) and the Gordon
and Betty Moore Foundation (GBMF4561) for their support in developing
and deploying this service.
Thank you,
Kacper Kowalik on behalf of the yt development team
