zlib error with Plone 4.1.5 and ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Root install method chosen. Will install for use by system user plone Installing Plone 4.1.5 at /usr/local/Plone User 'plone' already exists. No need to create it. Compiling and installing jpeg local libraries ... Skipping zlib build Compiling and installing readline local libraries ... Installing Python 2.6.8. This takes a while... Patching for Debian/Ubuntu Multiarch Patching for thread size Patching for disabled ssl2 Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module> LookupError: unknown encoding: zip Python zlib support is missing; something went wrong in the zlib or python build. Installation has failed.

The 'documentation' of their signatures is only available with help(types.xxx). So the library doc issue is 2.7 only. Running with IDLE, 3.3b0, Win7, the converted example does crash after 5 seconds or so even with the missing arg and the pprint gone. The crash is in the new_fun(5) call. I might have gotten something wrong. floating point conversion error

Converting from a string to a float (for example, after having read in data from a file) encounter a "value error: invalid literal" error when given '00E', which is part of '00E+00', the representation used by several spreadsheet programs for 0 when a cell is set to scientific notation. This renders all python programs unable to work with any data input from files created by a program that adheres to this convention, most notably EXCEL and Calc, without specific user intervention, either on the spreadsheet or pythons sides. his should properly translate to 0.0 as a float when encountered. I think the documentation needs to be updated. Inconsistency about .pth files

Hi all! I've found what I believe is an error in the documentation. When reading about the great .pth files on this site: http://docs.python.org/install/index.html#modifying-python-s-search-path, it says that "The most convenient way is to add a path configuration file to a directory that’s already on Python’s path". That's what reality shows works as well. When reading about the same .pth files here: http://docs.python.org/library/site.html#module-site, it says "A path configuration file is a file whose name has the form *name*.pth and exists in one of the four directories mentioned above". It seems to me that the text states that there are only four valid directories where a .pth file can reside to be found, which is not true. Kind regards David Raimosson
