wrapping CPython objects

Hi friends, a quick question, maybe it is not so hard: I'm trying to wrap classes or instances which are built with RPython. I need to create a wrapper that is callable from CPyrthon. As I saw, there is already quite some support for wrapping arbitrary functions. What I'm probably missing is how the necessary conversions must be created for the rtyper. Or should I try to (ab)use rctypes for this? Comparing PyPy with CLR

Hi all, It was nice that I could meet some of you guys at the PyCon, and the sprint. I have a question related to PyPy's goal, etc; it might sound a little bit provocative, but that's not my intention at all. It's for me to explain other people the value of PyPy project. Anyway, I'll just shoot it :) Comparing PyPy to CLR, what is the strength of PyPy with respect to multi language support? CLR supports Common Type System and Common Intermediate Language, and with these CLR supports interoperability between several languages like (Iron)Python, VB, C#, etc. PyPy (kind of?) supports interoperability as well, but in different way; by having multiple objectspace and stack machine operator(or interpreter) However, I can't really explain the strength of PyPy in this case. Can anyone tell me about this? (or anything in general about PyPy being better approach than CLR) Thanks, -Jiwon

New code-templating system for py.lib

I have been working on a new code templating system for py.lib. The initial documentation and the tokenizer are complete, and I am now working on the parser and the compiler. Currently I am running into problems when I want to translate a function that returns a pointer to a strcuture. Michael gave a hint, telling me that returning a pointer won't work with the test wrapper., but if I change the function to return something differnt (False) the problem persists. I am talking about the tests in pypy/dist/pypy/rpython/rctypes/test/test_rctypes.py around line 423 (def test_compile_pointer_to_struct). Any help is welcome. Leysin sprint: need exact dates

Hi friends, I would like to ask you about the exact dates for the internal Leysin sprint. My plan was to come back from USA at March 30, but since my flight is going through Switzerland, anyway, it might make much more sense to go directly there. Looking for a thesis

Hi, my name is Antonio and I'm studying computer science at university of Genoa (Italy). Since I need a thesis for graduating and since I love Python very much I'd like to contribute to the pypy project, if you think I could help. I have already read the online docs and I have played a little with the current version of pypy. I have two questions: 1) do you think I could help the project, as I hope? 2) what tasks do you think could be suitable for a thesis? Obviously before begin coding I have to discuss with my professor to decide if the task if not too big or too small for our purposes. Sorry for my far-from-perfect language, but as you could have guessed I am not a native speaker :-). Cheers, Antonio

framework gcs and NULL termination

So earlier on today I built the first pypy-c using for its memory management one of the frameworks written by Carl last summer, which I think is pretty cool! After one more bugfix, it seems reasonably solid, running at least a few of CPython's regression tests fine, if a little slowly for now. However, all is not perfect. The build occasionally dies with a random (PyPy level) OSError and string formatting with floats doesn't quite work right: >>>> "%f"%1.0 '1.000000\x11' I think the cause of these is related: rpython strings are not always being NULL terminated, and this causes fun when they get passed to functions expecting a C string. This lead to a "how did this ever work" moment: for example, I don't see how ll_join_strs ensures NULL termination, even with the refcounting GC. [rewriting waht I wrote into the issue tracker, which for some reason didn't get it -- broken? ] Hi friends, it happened that I was sitting here with Raymond Hettinger, and we played a bit with a code example that Gromit posted on the PyPy IRC channel the other day. The examples were (1) map(apply, [lambda: t for t in range(10)]) (2) map(apply, (lambda: t for t in range(10))) The expected results are [9]*10 for (1). We were not so sure what (2) should give, so I felt inclined to say the unfortunate words of """Hey, let's see what the upcoming reference-implementation-to-be says about this""". I should not have done that. In fact, I blushed heavily and would better have sunken into the earth, one mile deep. Well, due to the fact that we pass almost all regression tests, Raymond admitted that CPython probably still lacks some more tests, otherwise these would have benn fixed already.
