Question: Is there any faster way to run benchmarks on pypy/module/cpyext module?

Hello pypy experts! What I want to do is to run a performance test on the cpyext module. The translation&compilation procedure took about 1 hour on my computer. After I modifying some code( just a slight modification under pypy/modules/cpyext), the whole translation procedure seemed to restart completely, taking another one hour. I found pytest could do unit test, but it seems to be run on a different interpreter such as Cpython2 or another pre-built pypy interpreter. So I was wondering if there is any way to run performance benchmarks partially, without compiling the whole project, honestly thanks! -- zy hou

I have uploaded 3 versions of python: 2.7, 3.9, 3.10 (first time release) as the PyPy7.3.12rc2 release candidate. Release note: https://doc.pypy.org/en/latest/release-v7.3.12.html Downloads: https://downloads.python.org/pypy/ The aarch64 3.9 rc2 is missing, I am rebuilding it now. checksums: https://www.pypy.org/checksums.html I will be updating the https://downloads.python.org/pypy/versions.json file so these can be used in github actions/azure CI soon. Hi! Sorry for the delay, I didn't realize I needed to be subscribed to the mailing list to participate in conversations. My use case is that I have a gui application which runs arbitrary tasks as background threads, and needs to provide a cancel button to interrupt them. The tasks are often legacy code and/or are very difficult to find reasonable points to insert checks for interruption. Another use case would be implementing a python shell in a gui. If you want to maintain responsiveness while commands execute, they must be able to run in another thread (or another process, but this is not ideal if the shell is supposed to interact with the internals of your application). Interrupting lines with ctrl-c requires being able to send an exception to worker threads. Hope this helps! Thanks, - Audrey

New release cycle started

I think the py3.10 branch has reached a point where we can start a new release cycle. We last released Dec 29, 2022, and soon after created the py3.10 branch. Work on this progressed quickly, due in no small part to earlier work done on the interpreter/parser to handle the new 3.10 features. Those who read the release notes will notice I am looking for someone to take over as release manager. I have been releasing PyPy since 2014, it is time to pass the job on. Anyone interested could pair-program with me through this release cycle, so now is the time to volunteer. Matti
