We are meeting with Humanized in Chicago, then IBM in New York, the Mozilla/Active State/Tim Bray of Sun in Vancouver, then going to a 3 day conference in Santa Cruz, then meeting John Rose of Sun and various other Sun people, then going to Electronic Arts, and then to google on the 14th. Then 2 days of free time in San Francisco, get back on an airplane on the 17th and arrive back here in Göteborg on the 19th, day 1 of the sprint. Ok, we're crazy. :-) But I think that a touring blog would be nice, even as a place to download our thoughts before our brains overflow. Somebody, someplace, must have made emacs binding for a commonly used blogging site, no? Googling isn't helping -- I keep finding everybody and their dog blogging about emacs bindings for every program on this planet, it seems, except the blogging software itself. Anybody know of any? Small optimization

Hi all, between some interesting and a lot of not-so-interesting talks here at oospla, I also find the time to hack a bit on pypy :-). Yesterday I tried the hand-written optimization attached to this mail; it seems to make pystone about 6% faster; it's not much, but it's not even so few not to take into account, IMHO. Btw, richards does not show any improvement, as expected. Also, it seems that it makes pypy-cli slower, at least on mono; this is somewhat surprising, because IronPython entirely relies on this kind of if-else if tests to dispath all operations... I would have bet that our multimethod dispatching was slower, but it does not seems so. I should try also on MS .NET, though. Compiling pypy-c on Linux

Hi all Looks like I'm the one with all the complaints :) Thanks for investigating the Windows issues! I'm trying to compile pypy-c on a Linux/x86 machine, and running into all sorts of errors. Following the instructions in the getting- started document, I installed ctypes, pygame and graphviz. After that I run the translator tool and get the following errors. Hi I am currently running pypy-c on Windows and I was wondering what the default mode of execution is. Is it a bytecode interpreter or is it doing a JIT compilation? Is there a native code option and how can I invoke it? Thanks Raj

py.test bisection algorithm

Hi, we are using py.test in SymPy and unfortunately, we have some bugs in SymPy, that occurs when certain tests are run and don't occur when the tests are run in different order. It's very time consuming to determine which tests cause the problem (I did that several times by hand). It occured to me that it should be possible to enhance py.test by this facility to do it automatically. Example: 1) This passes: $ py.test sympy/series/tests/test_series.py -k issue409 This doesn't 2) $ py.test One problem is, that 2) runs for several minutes, another problem is that I need to specify all tests on the command line and then deleting some of them it see if it still fails, until I narrow the issue down, usually quite nicely. Then I need to play with the "-k" parameter to try different test cases in the file, until I determine the minimal set of tests that, when executed in order, produce the error. This can by done automatically - the py.test will be given a set of files (or just tests) that pass and another set that fails and it will narrow the problem down, by bisecting. I would like to implement this in py.test. So I'll try my best and send you a patch. If you have some ideas, that could help me, I am interested. Thanks a lot, Ondrej
