New issue 1169: yt fails to run on pull from yt dev tip https://bitbucket.org/yt_analysis/yt/issues/1169/yt-fails-to-run-on-pull-fr… Cameron Hummels: I just pulled from the tip of yt dev (be66247e2a8a), and ran `python setup.py develop` in the yt-hg directory only to receive this error: http://paste.yt-project.org/show/6228/ On the advice of @ngoldbaum , I ran `pip install -U setuptools` to update setuptools and tried rerunning `python setup.py develop`, which resulted in a new error: http://paste.yt-project.org/show/6229/ Running `clean.sh` did not help with the problem, and I continue to receive the same error as above when I attempt to `python setup.py develop`. I'm not sure what to do. For reference, when I run `pip freeze`, I get the following versions: http://pastebin.com/Kh8wih9D Not sure what to do. But I had a working version of ~week-old yt prior to pulling the updates from last weeks' triage. For reference, my yt install was originally built from the install_script on Mac OS X 10.8.5.

problem while installing yt

Hello yt users I'm trying to install yt-stable using all-in-one script. I installed yt successfully on my laptop( ubuntu 14.04) and also on Mac system using the same one. But now i am installing in Cent OS. But it gives the following error. Installing BZLIB Installing ZLIB Installing PNG Installing FreeType2 Installing HDF5 Installing SQLite3 Installing Python 2. This may take a while, but don't worry. yt loves you. But running the attached script leads to this error: http://paste.yt-project.org/show/6222/ I've also tried "p.set_unit(('young_stars', 'age'), 'Myr')" instead of "p.set_unit('age','Myr')" but that comes up with "TypeError: not all arguments converted during string formatting". Please help. Thanks!

Pull requests containing 'WIP' are no longer tested

Hi all! due to significant load on testing box, I've disabled test runs for PRs containing "WIP" in the title (at least temporarily). If you think your PR is ready for review and you want it tested just drop the prefix. As usual please let me know if there are any quirks in testing process. Cheers, Kacper

Confusing distribution of the number of particles per octree node

Hi all, I'm looking at the number of particles per octree node (n_p hereafter) (a.k.a. the ('deposit', 'all_count') field) and find the results confusing. To my understanding, an octree node is refined (into 8 sub-nodes) only when n_p (of that node) > n_ref, so eventually n_p.mean (the average value of n_p) should be greater than n_ref/8. But the number I get is much smaller. When n_ref = 64, I get n_p.mean approximately 2 for all my tests. I'm wondering if my understanding of the octree refining process if correct? yt 3.3 mini-sprint

Dear yt developers, At the team meeting today, we discussed having a mini-sprint to finish off the remaining VR refactor stuff in preparation for a 3.3 release. I've gone through the open issues, and sorted them into the following categories. These are: 1) Camera Path stuff: 1115 <https://bitbucket.org/yt_analysis/yt/issues/1115/experimental-add-in-keyfra…>, 1116 <https://bitbucket.org/yt_analysis/yt/issues/1116/experimental-making-vr-wor…> , 2) new VR annotations for lines and rays: 1126 <https://bitbucket.org/yt_analysis/yt/issues/1126/experimental-add-annotate_…> 3) Speed up the Perspective Lens and make it the default in the docs. 1121 <https://bitbucket.org/yt_analysis/yt/issues/1121/experimental-speed-up-pers…> If you disagree with any of these classifications, or if I've left something out, please let me know. Some time in the coming weeks, I think it would be good to dedicate a few person-days of effort to a mini-sprint to finish these issues off. I'd be game for such an effort myself, and I know that Nathan mentioned at the hangout that he'd be willing to help, too. If anyone else would like to contribute, please let me know be responding to this email. We can decide on a precise set of dates later. Of course, there's no reason we have to wait for the sprint to start crossing these off, but in practice having a dedicated block of time set aside always helps. Thanks, Andrew
