MSVC7 directories

Just incase it slips under the radar, I have opened a bug regarding MSVC7 directories. Specifically, changes I make to the directories in the MSVC7 GUI are not seen by distutils. All the details, and a patch, is in the bug: http://www.python.org/sf/883969 [ 883969 ] distutils doesn't see user-directories set via VisStudio 7.1 Any comments appreciated, Thanks, Mark

need help on distrbuting in the user's path

Hi all, I am new for the python - distutils. I am creating distribution for the windows platform. I want to get user's path option and put all my python file(modules and packages) in to the same path at the installation run time. Can any one help me in that?? Thanks in advance Regards V.Selvam

Once open the registry fills with everything accept Directories which appear in the registry on closing VisualStudio. Adding my Includes in VisualStudio, I was able to get through the first couple of modules without problem, it died later on when the copiler was passed a -Wall parameter (a bug perhaps?): C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VC98\BIN\cl.exe /c /nologo /Ox /MD /W3 /GX /DNDEBUG -IC:\!OSS\Zope-2.7.0-rc2\bin\include -IC:\!OSS\Zope-2.7.0-rc2\bin\P C /Tcsrc/python-Levenshtein-0.7/Levenshtein.c /Fobuild\temp.win32-2.3\Release\sr c/python-Levenshtein-0.7/Levenshtein.obj -Wall Command line error D2021 : invalid numeric argument '/Wall' error: command '"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VC98\BIN\cl.exe"' fail ed with exit status 2 I manually executed that compiler command line without the -Wall and the module built and then I was able to complete the compiling by reissuing 'python setup.py build' Thanks again for your help -Garth Northern.CA ===-- http://www.northern.ca Canada's Search Engine

MSVC CRT woes

One of our politicians famously uttered "life wasn't meant to be easy" - how right he was :) Let's assume I am trying to use distutils from Python 2.4 to package an installation for both Python 2.3 and Python 2.4 (or vice-versa - trying to use 2.3 distutils to package them both). As mentioned her previously, I want to do this so I can use the features in later versions of distutils (such as the post-install-script) to package extensions for earlier versions of Python. The installation script uses PyRun_SimpleFile. This takes a FILE *. The problem is that Python 2.3 and Python 2.4 use different runtime libraries. One of them is guaranteed to crash. This violates the Python rule that Python and its extensions must use the same CRTL. I see 2 choices: * Avoid PyRun_SimpleFile, by reading the file ourself, and using PyRun_SimpleString. This should work, but is fragile, as we are still breaking that rule. * Provide 2 different wininst.exe stubs, one for MSVC6 and one for MSVC7. distutils hardcodes the knowledge of what one to use for what version. However, the problem is that this will mean people building distutils to ship will always need *both* VC6 and VC7 - VC6 just for that stub, and VC7 to build everything else. The first option is less work, and should work today, but is still naughty. Any thoughts? Mark.
