New submission from Douche <sdouche(a)gmail.com>: This is a basic try (4h) to extract specific SVN code out of the core and add entry points for: - filters (.svn, .hg, ...) - find files in repos - get revision's number Thoughts: - if repos have 2 VCS entries (.svn and .hg for example), the first valid entry point is used. - walk_revctrl function needs more love. I keep the philosophy of iterator but is it the good way ? Notes: - vcs_svn.py & vcs_hg.py are only for demo. The natural place are into Setuptools plugins. - filters must return a list. - revisions must return a int or None (not 0). Most VCS support is through plugins anyhow, so it's no big deal for them to define a function and add another entry point.

Hello. I'm trying to install Trac, and it failed with a NameError: global name 'log' is not defined error message. Because of that, I found the "the svn >= 1.5 bug with setuptools/command/sdist.py: global name 'log' is not defined" thread from August 2008 at http://mail.python.org/pipermail/distutils-sig/2008-August/009883.html Now I'm trying to solve that problem. [Setuptools] VCS agnostic

Hi, I wonder about the way of making setuptools independent of VCS. After a fast reading, 2 functions engage the attention : - prune_file_list (egg_info.py) - copytree (install_egg_info.py) These functions manipulate VCS directories (RCS, CVS, .svn). Instead of listing explicitly each VCS directory, I propose to replace by all hidden directories (.*). Recents VCS uses them (.git, .svn, .bzr, .hg ...). Other ideas ? -- Seb

Hm. I don't know if I even *have* setuptools installed. How do I find out? In site-packages, there's no setuptools egg and a "find /usr/lib/python2.5 -name sandbox.py" returns nothing.
