Greetings,
We are pleased to announce version 23.6.0 of magic-folder.
Magic Folder synchronizes local data to and from a Tahoe-LAFS Grid,
keeping data private with the end-to-end encrypted "Capabilities" of
Tahoe-LAFS. One or more magic-folder clients can join the same Folder,
adding and synchronizing data across multiple devices. Written in
Python, Magic Folder supports Linux, MacOS and Windows. Python3 and
PyPy are supported.
By itself, this project requires familiarity with the command-line and
long-running processes. The Gridsync project provides a cross-
platform GUI experience using the localhost HTTP API.
Changes in this release include:
- - security: Bump dependencies, including security-relevant cryptography library (#716)
- - feature: Added a description of the datamodel to the documentation (#702)
- - feature: Conflict files now named after the Participant (not Author) (#711)
- - bugfix: "magic-folder status" properly parses scan/poll events (#717)
- - bugfix: Handle updates to conflicted files more robustly (#719)
You may download the release from PyPI:
https://pypi.org/project/magic-folder/23.6.0/#files
Currently the localhost HTTP API used for integration is not 100%
stable, although we do not expect large changes.
thanks,
meejah

release of SciPy 1.11.0.
Sources and binary wheels can be found at:

SciPy 1.11.0 Release Notes
==========================
SciPy 1.11.0 is the culmination of 6 months of hard work. It contains
many new features, numerous bug-fixes, improved test coverage and better
documentation. There have been a number of deprecations and API changes
in this release, which are documented below. All users are encouraged to
upgrade to this release, as there are a large number of bug-fixes and
optimizations. Before upgrading, we recommend that users check that
their own code does not use deprecated SciPy functionality (to do so,
run your code with ``python -Wd`` and check for ``DeprecationWarning`` s).
Our development attention will now shift to bug-fix releases on the
1.11.x branch, and on adding new features on the main branch.
This release requires Python 3.9+ and NumPy 1.21.6 or greater.
For running on PyPy, PyPy3 6.0+ is required.
**************************
Highlights of this release
**************************
- Several `scipy.sparse` array API improvements, including
`sparse.sparray`, a new
public base class distinct from the older `sparse.spmatrix` class,
proper 64-bit index support, and numerous deprecations paving the way to a
modern sparse array experience.
- `scipy.stats` added tools for survival analysis, multiple hypothesis
testing,
sensitivity analysis, and working with censored data.
- A new function was added for quasi-Monte Carlo integration, and linear
algebra functions ``det`` and ``lu`` now accept nD-arrays.
- An ``axes`` argument was added broadly to ``ndimage`` functions,
facilitating
analysis of stacked image data.
************
New features
************
`scipy.integrate` improvements
==============================
- Added `scipy.integrate.qmc_quad` for quasi-Monte Carlo integration.
- For an even number of points, `scipy.integrate.simpson` now calculates
a parabolic segment over the last three points which gives improved
accuracy over the previous implementation.
`scipy.cluster` improvements
============================
- ``disjoint_set`` has a new method ``subset_size`` for providing the size
of a particular subset.
`scipy.constants` improvements
================================
- The ``quetta``, ``ronna``, ``ronto``, and ``quecto`` SI prefixes were
added.
`scipy.linalg` improvements
===========================
- `scipy.linalg.det` is improved and now accepts nD-arrays.
- `scipy.linalg.lu` is improved and now accepts nD-arrays. With the new
``p_indices`` switch the output permutation argument can be 1D ``(n,)``
permutation index instead of the full ``(n, n)`` array.
`scipy.ndimage` improvements
============================
- ``axes`` argument was added to ``rank_filter``, ``percentile_filter``,
``median_filter``, ``uniform_filter``, ``minimum_filter``,
``maximum_filter``, and ``gaussian_filter``, which can be useful for
processing stacks of image data.
`scipy.optimize` improvements
=============================
- `scipy.optimize.linprog` now passes unrecognized options directly to
HiGHS.
- `scipy.optimize.root_scalar` now uses Newton's method to be used without
providing ``fprime`` and the ``secant`` method to be used without a second
guess.
- `scipy.optimize.lsq_linear` now accepts ``bounds`` arguments of type
`scipy.optimize.Bounds`.
- `scipy.optimize.minimize` ``method='cobyla'`` now supports simple bound
constraints.
- Users can opt into a new callback interface for most methods of
`scipy.optimize.minimize`: If the provided callback callable accepts
a single keyword argument, ``intermediate_result``,
`scipy.optimize.minimize`
now passes both the current solution and the optimal value of the
objective
function to the callback as an instance of
`scipy.optimize.OptimizeResult`.
It also allows the user to terminate optimization by raising a
``StopIteration`` exception from the callback function.
`scipy.optimize.minimize` will return normally, and the latest solution
information is provided in the result object.
- `scipy.optimize.curve_fit` now supports an optional ``nan_policy``
argument.
- `scipy.optimize.shgo` now has parallelization with the ``workers``
argument,
symmetry arguments that can improve performance, class-based design to
improve usability, and generally improved performance.
`scipy.signal` improvements
===========================
- ``istft`` has an improved warning message when the NOLA condition fails.
`scipy.sparse` improvements
===========================
- A new public base class `scipy.sparse.sparray` was introduced, allowing
further
extension of the sparse array API (such as the support for 1-dimensional
sparse arrays) without breaking backwards compatibility.
`isinstance(x, scipy.sparse.sparray)` to select the new sparse array
classes,
while `isinstance(x, scipy.sparse.spmatrix)` selects only the old sparse
matrix classes.
- Division of sparse arrays by a dense array now returns sparse arrays.
- `scipy.sparse.isspmatrix` now only returns `True` for the sparse matrices
instances.
`scipy.sparse.issparse` now has to be used instead to check for instances
of sparse
arrays or instances of sparse matrices.
- Sparse arrays constructed with int64 indices will no longer automatically
downcast to int32.
- The ``argmin`` and ``argmax`` methods now return the correct result when
explicit
zeros are present.
`scipy.sparse.linalg` improvements
==================================
- dividing ``LinearOperator`` by a number now returns a
``_ScaledLinearOperator``
- ``LinearOperator`` now supports right multiplication by arrays
- ``lobpcg`` should be more efficient following removal of an extraneous
QR decomposition.
`scipy.spatial` improvements
============================
- Usage of new C++ backend for additional distance metrics, the majority of
which will see substantial performance improvements, though a few minor
regressions are known. These are focused on distances between boolean
arrays.
`scipy.special` improvements
============================
- The factorial functions ``factorial``, ``factorial2`` and ``factorialk``
were made consistent in their behavior (in terms of dimensionality,
errors etc.). Additionally, ``factorial2`` can now handle arrays with
``exact=True``, and ``factorialk`` can handle arrays.
`scipy.stats` improvements
==========================
New Features
------------
- `scipy.stats.sobol_indices`, a method to compute Sobol' sensitivity
indices.
- `scipy.stats.dunnett`, which performs Dunnett's test of the means of
multiple
experimental groups against the mean of a control group.
- `scipy.stats.ecdf` for computing the empirical CDF and complementary

computing a confidence interval of the difference between means.
- `scipy.stats.MonteCarloMethod`, `scipy.stats.PermutationMethod`, and
`scipy.stats.BootstrapMethod` are new classes to configure resampling
and/or
Monte Carlo versions of hypothesis tests. They can currently be used with
`scipy.stats.pearsonr`.

*******************
Deprecated features
*******************
- Multi-Ellipsis sparse matrix indexing has been deprecated and will
be removed in SciPy 1.13.
- Several methods were deprecated for sparse arrays: ``asfptype``,
``getrow``,
``getcol``, ``get_shape``, ``getmaxprint``, ``set_shape``,
``getnnz``, and ``getformat``. Additionally, the ``.A`` and ``.H``
attributes were deprecated. Sparse matrix types are not affected.
- The `scipy.linalg` functions ``tri``, ``triu`` & ``tril`` are deprecated
and
will be removed in SciPy 1.13. Users are recommended to use the NumPy
versions of these functions with identical names.
- The `scipy.signal` functions ``bspline``, ``quadratic`` & ``cubic`` are
deprecated and will be removed in SciPy 1.13. Users are recommended to use
`scipy.interpolate.BSpline` instead.
- The ``even`` keyword of `scipy.integrate.simpson` is deprecated and will
be
removed in SciPy 1.13.0. Users should leave this as the default as this
gives improved accuracy compared to the other methods.
- Using ``exact=True`` when passing integers in a float array to
``factorial``
is deprecated and will be removed in SciPy 1.13.0.
- float128 and object dtypes are deprecated for `scipy.signal.medfilt` and
`scipy.signal.order_filter`
- The functions ``scipy.signal.{lsim2, impulse2, step2}`` had long been
deprecated in documentation only. They now raise a DeprecationWarning and
will be removed in SciPy 1.13.0.
- Importing window functions directly from `scipy.window` has been soft
deprecated since SciPy 1.1.0. They now raise a ``DeprecationWarning`` and
will be removed in SciPy 1.13.0. Users should instead import them from
`scipy.signal.window` or use the convenience function
`scipy.signal.get_window`.
******************************
Backwards incompatible changes
******************************
- The default for the ``legacy`` keyword of `scipy.special.comb` has changed
from ``True`` to ``False``, as announced since its introduction.
********************
Expired Deprecations
********************
There is an ongoing effort to follow through on long-standing deprecations.
The following previously deprecated features are affected:
- The ``n`` keyword has been removed from `scipy.stats.moment`.
- The ``alpha`` keyword has been removed from `scipy.stats.interval`.
- The misspelt ``gilbrat`` distribution has been removed (use
`scipy.stats.gibrat`).
- The deprecated spelling of the ``kulsinski`` distance metric has been
removed (use `scipy.spatial.distance.kulczynski1`).
- The ``vertices`` keyword of `scipy.spatial.Delauney.qhull` has been
removed
(use simplices).
- The ``residual`` property of `scipy.sparse.csgraph.maximum_flow` has been
removed (use ``flow``).
- The ``extradoc`` keyword of `scipy.stats.rv_continuous`,
`scipy.stats.rv_discrete` and `scipy.stats.rv_sample` has been removed.
- The ``sym_pos`` keyword of `scipy.linalg.solve` has been removed.
- The `scipy.optimize.minimize` function now raises an error for ``x0`` with
``x0.ndim > 1``.
- In `scipy.stats.mode`, the default value of ``keepdims`` is now ``False``,
and support for non-numeric input has been removed.
- The function `scipy.signal.lsim` does not support non-uniform time steps
anymore.

We’re getting close! 3.12.0 beta 3 has been released:
https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-3120b3/
*This is a beta preview of Python 3.12*
Python 3.12 is still in development. This release, 3.12.0b3, is the third
of four beta release previews of 3.12.
Beta release previews are intended to give the wider community the
opportunity to test new features and bug fixes and to prepare their
projects to support the new feature release.
We *strongly encourage* maintainers of third-party Python projects to* test
with 3.12* during the beta phase and report issues found to [the Python bug
tracker (https://github.com/python/cpython/issues) as soon as possible.
While the release is planned to be feature complete entering the beta
phase, it is possible that features may be modified or, in rare cases,
deleted up until the start of the release candidate phase (Monday,
2023-07-31). Our goal is to have no ABI changes after beta 4 and as few
code changes as possible after 3.12.0rc1, the first release candidate. To
achieve that, it will be *extremely important* to get as much exposure for
3.12 as possible during the beta phase.
Please keep in mind that this is a preview release and its use is *not
*recommended
for production environments.
*Major new features of the 3.12 series, compared to 3.11*
Some of the new major new features and changes in Python 3.12 are:
- New type annotation syntax for generic classes (PEP 695
<https://peps.python.org/pep-0695/>).
- More flexible f-string parsing, allowing many things previously
disallowed (PEP 701 <https://peps.python.org/pep-0701/>).
- Even more improved error messages. More exceptions potentially caused
by typos now make suggestions to the user.
- Many large and small performance improvements (like PEP 709
<https://peps.python.org/pep-0709/>).
- Support for the Linux perf profiler to report Python function names in
traces.
- The deprecated wstr and wstr_length members of the C implementation of
unicode objects were removed, per PEP 623
<https://peps.python.org/pep-0623/>.
- In the unittest module, a number of long deprecated methods and
classes were removed. (They had been deprecated since Python 3.1 or 3.2).
- The deprecated smtpd and distutils modules have been removed (see PEP
594 <https://peps.python.org/pep-0594/> and PEP 632
<https://peps.python.org/pep-0632/>. The setuptools package continues to
provide the distutils module.
- A number of other old, broken and deprecated functions, classes and
methods have been removed.
- Invalid backslash escape sequences in strings now warn with
SyntaxWarning instead of DeprecationWarning, making them more visible.
(They will become syntax errors in the future.)
- The internal representation of integers has changed in preparation for
performance enhancements. (This should not affect most users as it is an
internal detail, but it may cause problems for Cython-generated code.)
- (Hey, fellow core developer, if a feature you find important is

After several alpha and beta releases, I've finally pushed out version 3.1.0 of pyparsing. Here are the highlights:
NOTE: In the future release 3.2.0, use of many of the pre-PEP8 methods (such as `ParserElement.parseString`) will start to raise `DeprecationWarnings`. 3.2.0 should get released some time later in 2023. I currently plan to completely drop the pre-PEP8 methods in pyparsing 4.0, though we won't see that release until at least late 2023 if not 2024. So there is plenty of time to convert existing parsers to the new function names before the old functions are completely removed. (Big help from Devin J. Pohly in structuring the code to enable this peaceful transition.)
Version 3.2.0 will also discontinue support for Python versions 3.6 and 3.7.
Version 3.1.0 - June, 2023
--------------------------
API CHANGES
-----------
- A slight change has been implemented when unquoting a quoted string parsed using the `QuotedString` class. Formerly, when unquoting and processing whitespace markers such as \t and \n, these substitutions would occur first, and then any additional '\' escaping would be done on the resulting string. This would parse "\\n" as "\<newline>". Now escapes and whitespace markers are all processed in a single pass working left to right, so the quoted string "\\n" would get unquoted to "\n" (a backslash followed by "n"). Fixes issue #474 raised by jakeanq, thanks!
- Reworked `delimited_list` function into the new `DelimitedList` class. `DelimitedList` has the same constructor interface as `delimited_list`, and in this release, `delimited_list` changes from a function to a synonym for `DelimitedList`. `delimited_list` and the older `delimitedList` method will be deprecated in a future release, in favor of `DelimitedList`.
- `ParserElement.validate()` is deprecated. It predates the support for left-recursive parsers, and was prone to false positives (warning that a grammar was invalid when it was in fact valid). It will be removed in a future pyparsing release. In its place, developers should use debugging and analytical tools, such as `ParserElement.set_debug()` and `ParserElement.create_diagram()`. (Raised in Issue #444, thanks Andrea Micheli!)
NEW FEATURES AND ENHANCEMENTS
-----------------------------
- `Optional(expr)` may now be written as `expr | ""`
This will make this code:
"{" + Optional(Literal("A") | Literal("a")) + "}"
writable as:
"{" + (Literal("A") | Literal("a") | "") + "}"
Some related changes implemented as part of this work:
- `Literal("")` now internally generates an `Empty()` (and no longer raises an exception)
- `Empty` is now a subclass of `Literal`
Suggested by Antony Lee (issue #412), PR (#413) by Devin J. Pohly.
- Added new class method `ParserElement.using_each`, to simplify code that creates a sequence of `Literals`, `Keywords`, or other `ParserElement` subclasses.
For instance, to define suppressible punctuation, you would previously write:
LPAR, RPAR, LBRACE, RBRACE, SEMI = map(Suppress, "(){};")
You can now write:
LPAR, RPAR, LBRACE, RBRACE, SEMI = Suppress.using_each("(){};")
`using_each` will also accept optional keyword args, which it will pass through to the class initializer. Here is an expression for single-letter variable names that might be used in an algebraic expression:
algebra_var = MatchFirst(
Char.using_each(string.ascii_lowercase, as_keyword=True)
)
- Added new builtin `python_quoted_string`, which will match any form of single-line or multiline quoted strings defined in Python. (Inspired by discussion with Andreas Schörgenhumer in Issue #421.)
- Extended `expr[]` notation for repetition of `expr` to accept a slice, where the slice's stop value indicates a `stop_on` expression:
test = "BEGIN aaa bbb ccc END"
BEGIN, END = Keyword.using_each("BEGIN END".split())
body_word = Word(alphas)
expr = BEGIN + Group(body_word[...:END]) + END
# equivalent to
# expr = BEGIN + Group(ZeroOrMore(body_word, stop_on=END)) + END
print(expr.parse_string(test))
Prints:
['BEGIN', ['aaa', 'bbb', 'ccc'], 'END']
- Added named field "url" to `pyparsing.common.url`, returning the entire parsed URL string.
- Added bool `embed` argument to `ParserElement.create_diagram()`. When passed as True, the resulting diagram will omit the `<DOCTYPE>`, `<HEAD>`, and `<BODY>` tags so that it can be embedded in other HTML source. (Useful when embedding a call to `create_diagram()` in a PyScript HTML page.)
- Added `recurse` argument to `ParserElement.set_debug` to set the debug flag on an expression and all of its sub-expressions. Requested by multimeric in Issue #399.
- Added '·' (Unicode MIDDLE DOT) to the set of Latin1.identbodychars.
- `ParseResults` now has a new method `deepcopy()`, in addition to the current `copy()` method. `copy()` only makes a shallow copy - any contained `ParseResults` are copied as references - changes in the copy will be seen as changes in the original. In many cases, a shallow copy is sufficient, but some applications require a deep copy. `deepcopy()` makes a deeper copy: any contained `ParseResults` or other mappings or containers are built with copies from the original, and do not get changed if the original is later changed. Addresses issue #463, reported by Bryn Pickering.
- Added new class property `identifier` to all Unicode set classes in `pyparsing.unicode`, using the class's values for `cls.identchars` and `cls.identbodychars`. Now Unicode-aware parsers that formerly wrote:
ppu = pyparsing.unicode
ident = Word(ppu.Greek.identchars, ppu.Greek.identbodychars)
can now write:
ident = ppu.Greek.identifier
# or
# ident = ppu.????????.identifier
- Error messages from `MatchFirst` and `Or` expressions will try to give more details if one of the alternatives matches better than the others, but still fails. Question raised in Issue #464 by msdemlei, thanks!
BUG FIXES AND GENERAL CHANGES
-----------------------------
- Added support for Python 3.12.
- Updated `ci.yml` permissions to limit default access to source - submitted by Joyce Brum of Google. Thanks so much!
- Updated `create_diagram()` code to be compatible with `railroad-diagrams` package version 3.0. Fixes Issue #477 (railroad diagrams generated with black bars), reported by Sam Morley-Short.
- Fixed bug in `NotAny`, where parse actions on the negated expr were not being run. This could cause `NotAny` to incorrectly fail if the expr would normally match, but would fail to match if a condition used as a parse action returned False. Fixes Issue #482, raised by byaka, thank you!
- Fixed `create_diagram()` to accept keyword args, to be passed through to the `template.render()` method to generate the output HTML (PR submitted by Aussie Schnore, good catch!)
- Fixed bug in `python_quoted_string` regex.
- Fixed bug when parse actions returned an empty string for an expression that had a results name, that the results name was not saved. That is:
expr = Literal("X").add_parse_action(lambda tokens: "")("value")
result = expr.parse_string("X")
print(result["value"])
would raise a `KeyError`. Now empty strings will be saved with the associated results name. Raised in Issue #470 by Nicco Kunzmann, thank you.
- Fixed bug in `SkipTo` where ignore expressions were not properly handled while scanning for the target expression. Issue #475, reported by elkniwt, thanks (this bug has been there for a looooong time!).
- Fixed bug in `Word` when `max=2`. Also added performance enhancement when specifying `exact` argument. Reported in issue #409 by panda-34, nice catch!
- `Word` arguments are now validated if `min` and `max` are both given, that `min` <= `max`; raises `ValueError` if values are invalid.
- Fixed bug in srange, when parsing escaped '/' and '\' inside a range set.
- Fixed exception messages for some `ParserElements` with custom names, which instead showed their contained expression names.
- Fixed bug in pyparsing.common.url, when input URL is not alone on an input line. Fixes Issue #459, reported by David Kennedy.
- Multiple added and corrected type annotations. With much help from Stephen Rosen, thanks!
- Some documentation and error message clarifications on pyparsing's keyword logic, cited by Basil Peace.
- General docstring cleanup for Sphinx doc generation, PRs submitted by Devin J. Pohly. A dirty job, but someone has to do it - much appreciated!
EXAMPLE UPDATES
---------------
- Added `tag_emitter.py` to examples. This example demonstrates how to insert tags into your parsed results that are not part of the original parsed text.
- Added `bf.py` Brainf*ck parser/executor example. Illustrates using a pyparsing grammar to parse language syntax, and attach executable AST nodes to the parsed results.
- `invRegex.py` example renamed to `inv_regex.py` and updated to PEP-8 variable and method naming. PR submitted by Ross J. Duff, thanks!
- Removed examples `sparser.py` and `pymicko.py`, since each included its own GPL license in the header. Since this conflicts with pyparsing's MIT license, they were removed from the distribution to avoid confusion among those making use of them in their own projects.
- Updated the `lucene_grammar.py` example (better support for '*' and '?' wildcards) and corrected the test cases - brought to my attention by Elijah Nicol, good catch!

Hi All,
The NumPy 1.25.0 release continues the ongoing work to improve the handling
and promotion of dtypes, increase execution speed, and clarify the
documentation. There has also been work to prepare for the future NumPy
2.0.0
release, resulting in a large number of new and expired deprecation.
Highlights are:
- Support for MUSL, there are now MUSL wheels.
- Support the Fujitsu C/C++ compiler.
- Object arrays are now supported in einsum
- Support for inplace matrix multiplication (@=).
We will release NumPy 1.26 on top of the 1.25 code when Python 12 reaches
the rc stage. That is needed because distutils has been dropped by Python
12 and we will be switching to using meson for future builds. The next
mainline release will be NumPy 2.0.0. We plan that the 2.0 series will
still support downstream projects built against earlier
versions of NumPy.
The Python versions supported in this release are 3.9-3.11. Wheels can be
downloaded from PyPI <https://pypi.org/project/numpy/1.25.0/>; source
archives, release notes, and wheel hashes are available on Github
<https://github.com/numpy/numpy/releases/tag/v1.25.0>.
