hi there, folks: I'd really like to release 0.7.0 but I would like it to be at least a little bit tested before I do so. Could those of you with CVS trees check everything out and see if it performs as advertised? Deeper bugs than that will have to wait for the next release, but I'd at least like to know if it works for someone other than me. [Twisted-Python] How do I upload files using FTPClient?

I am currently designing a code-deploying service, to be used in conjunction with a variety of source control tools. I'm looking to use Twisted in the implementation of the file-transfer mechanism, as Twisted's broad protocol support would make it easy for me to switch from say, FTP to HTTP, or to some custom protocol I roll myself. I've experimented with twisted.protocols.ftp.FTPClient, and the one thing I can't seem to grok is how to perform file uploads. I've read through the code, and it seems that the FTP server class supports RETR and STOR, using DTPFactory, while FTPClient only supports RETR, and implements it independently. Basically, I'm lost as to how to connect FTPClient to DTPFactory, such that I can send files from FTPClient. I just need some pointers on how to accomplish this; it seems like the code is there to do it, but I'm missing the necessary Twisted mindset in this case. Thanks for your help. L. Daniel Burr

Hi, I'm new to Twisted an want to understand a little bit more what it can do for me. I have implemented a webchat using the asyncore module. If a user logs in, he will the redirected to a frameset. The top frame contains the 'room view' and is in fact an endless page, so the connection has to be keept alive as long as the user is logged in. The bottom frame contains the input form. It posts a message to the server and the message is written to the open connections of all users in the room. Could somebody explain me, if such an architecture is possible with Twisted, and what might be the benefits compared to using raw asyncore. If possible a very rought roadmap how to begin would also be very helpfull. regards, Achim

[Twisted-Python] Example: Accessing a database from a Resource

As promised in the thread about deferreds and resources, here is an example of making a database call from a resource, using a thread. I've tried to follow the Twisted development guidelines, so please let me know if I've used any inappropriate naming conventions, etc. I didn't provide epydoc-style docstrings as I had originally hoped; I haven't had time to read the epydoc manual yet. Next up will be an example using twisted.enterprise, with Row and without. Hopefully examples of this sort will help newer users in grokking twisted.web, at least until the Woven stuff is ready. L. CVSToys 1.0.5 is out, for the fixing of the IRC bots which get knocked offline -- they now do reconnect again. Once again I had to hack twisted.im to make this possible, so we have more version creep and you will be needing a Twisted 1.0.2 to take advantage of this latest CVSToys release. There have also been some fixes relating to freshcvs.tap persistability. If you have had problems with starting from a freshcvs-shutdown.tap in the past, try again with this version, and let me know how it goes. Greetings, I have a "daemon" that is written in python (with some C extensions). The characterstics are: . A infinite loop, and in each cycle of the loop there is some processing going on. . During the processing, (everything else is blocked) so that she can do things uninterrupted. This is already a functional application. Coming to my question, currently I would like to provide it with a administrative interface that can be controlled over the network. In short, I would like it to be also: a) network daemon b) a very simple challenge/response type protocol to control the behaviour of the daemon. Obviously, "twisted" on the surface looked to be a very good candidate to get this up quickly. Since, I would be using a "reactor" interface, do I have to create my own "reactor" by subclassing say the TCP interface. Or, is there a easy way to integrate the reactor loop (.run()) with my loop? [Twisted-Python] Arbitrary Port/Connector objects

So far there are a couple use-cases for listening and connecting with IListeningPort/IConnector implementers that aren't in twisted.internet. Tv's SRV connector is one, IPv6 sockets is another. Currently it is cumbersome to use these, both because there are no convenience methods in reactor, and because if you want them to serialize properly you have to handle storing and restarting them yourself. Attached patch adds two methods to Application and two methods to the default reactor (they'll need to be put in an interface somewhere, too - I wasn't sure what the best place for them would be): listenWith and connectWith. These take a type object that implements IListeningPort and IConnector respectively, and then perform similar operations to the other listen and connect methods, including serialization and rebinding the ports on application startup. Also added to Application is unlistenWith, an awkwardly named function that causes a listening Port to stop listening. Jp -- Lowery's Law: If it jams -- force it. Not really . . . but _I_ do, and you have my ear. If you could ask Apple to change stuff which would make your life easier as a Python developer, what would you ask? Sometime in the next 2 weeks I'm going to be talking directly to an Apple sales engineer (or equivalent) about getting my needs met. Apple wants my organization to hurry and port our product to the Mac, and the person I'll be talking to will be taking requests for ways they can help us do that. The product is being built on a foundation of pyopenssl, cog, pybsddb, pycrypto, and twisted. Are any of these less than perfect on a Mac? Are there specific ways Apple can help make this situation better? I'll take the best suggestions and bring them to light when I have my conversation.
