first of all, just wanted to thank you guys for all your help. i'm really starting to get some of the more advanced stuff in twisted, and it's definitely totally cool... i was wondering if someone could give me a quick explanation of how interfaces work in twisted, or point me towards the right docstrigns to read... thanks, -phil

The only reason I can come up with for why this is the case is that it was not anticipated that other exceptions (like the one above) could arise from the given recv call. I would expect that in the above instance, connectionLost should be called, but it may very well be that i'm missing some subtlety so I am yet to submit a bug report. Cheers, Sam.

[Twisted-Python] help please: trouble installing twisted python on Windows 2000 Pro, but not Windows XP Pro

Hi, I just installed twisted python on my Windows XP laptop which has Python 2.3.2. I went to install it on Windows 2000 Professional version 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4 running Python 2.3 and got the following dialog box diagnostic: "Setup: CreateFile failed; code 5. Access is denied." I've been able to install piles of stuff on this system before, so I figure I have the required administrative privileges. I logon to a Windows domain, and my ID is in the Administrators group of the domain. There is a separate Administrator logon local to the machine which I haven't used, and probably can't get the password for, since this is a managed PC within the domain. Here are my questions: 1) What does the "code 5" failure mean? 2) What am I doing wrong? 3) Can I just move the twisted site-package folders over from my XP system Python 2.3 folder to the corresponding Windows 2000 Pro folder? I'm mostly interested in just importing the twisted modules and prototyping; I can do without the icons and start menu entries.

It's very basic right now; it absolutely needs py2exe and Inno setup support before I'll consider it done. The goal is to have the output be a complete binary package analogous to the output of tap2deb or tap2rpm. The only difference will be that, instead of depending on software like the Linux versions do, it will do as much as it can to help you include the dependencies in the package using py2exe. Right now, nothing beyond generating a service script is done. I think the issue is that the unix waker uses python sockets. You probably want to write your own waker using whatever APIs you are using. The customer is open to this suggestion, but asked us if we could provide references of companies using Twisted Names in production? [Twisted-Python] an easy twisted application question

okay, so if i've got a tap with the following updateApplication method: def updateApplication(app, config): app.registry = registry.Registry() ... ... and i want to access that app.registry attribute from an arbitrary location, how do i do it? i seem to remember hearing that there was only one instance of Application in a process, so does that mean that there's some (forgive the Java-speak) static method defined on the Application module that will get the current running instance? thanks in advance, -phil

[Twisted-Python] Twisted and mod_python?

I am wondering about the feasibility of using mod_python in an Apache server to make PB requests to a Twisted application. That is, I have a Twisted application which servers PB requests, e.g. a user manager. I also have an Apache server. I would like the Apache server to present dynamic web pages based on the contents of the user manager application, to act as a web front end (e.g. create/erase/modify user properties). I was thinking that it could be possible to use mod_python and Twisted to act as a client to the user manager. My questions are: 1. Is this possible, fesible and/or reasonable? If so, any hints or examples would be welcome. 2. Any alternative/better solutions? I suppose it would be rather easy to use CGI instead, but I'd like to explore the options. - Patrik
