hello twisted I've been lurking on this list of a couple of weeks now while getting accustomed to this wonderful framework, which I plan on using in my phd. project. I searched the archives for a webdav server implementation on top of twisted, and it looks like this is a topic that shows up every 6 months or so. But the only actual code is to be found here: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.python.twisted/6068 It looks a bit half-baked and I'm having trouble in getting it to work. Is there anyone around with experience in twisting a webdav server? regards, stefan.

[Twisted-Python] Help needed: good async design

I've just been messing about with the async howto and decided that half of it should be broken out into a "designing libraries for use with Twisted" document. Since I haven't actually done very much of this, help appreciated, including but not limited to pointers to the very best design inside the Twisted codebase, and IRC rants. They use blocking networked calls so that I'll want to use threads to make them play nicely with my twisted app. Now what I'd like to have is two distinct thread(s/ pools) for them. One of them would have a threadpool size of 1 (one) because the C-lib isn't threadsafe and I want implicit serialization without being forced to synchronize explicitly. My plan was to use a single thread (no pool) which blocks on a queue 'till it gets request from the reactor thread. When it has accomplished its duties it will use callFromThread to get the results back to the reactor threads. Could you tell me where the pitfalls are you mentioned above in this scenario? TIA, aa

Hello, if so, could you point me in the right direction? Furthermore: Is there an easy way to avoid the threadpool overhead when I actually only want to have one dedicated thread to fulfill a blocking job? TIA, andreas

[Twisted-Python] Threaded Twisted?

Hi! I wondered what would be the best way of running Twisted on a multi-processor system. I can run multiple instances of my program, but the message passing between them becomes somewhat more expensive than I would like (serialization). Can Twisted run in multiple Threads? Meaning: use two concurrent reactors? As far as I understand it, the reactor is implemented as a singleton, but since different reactor types are already supported, I wonder if anyone could think of a way of achieving that... Any ideas? Included is a patch to resolve A and CNAME records of the form A('*.foo.bar', '1.2.3.4') CNAME('*.foo.bar', 'foo.bar') This would be useful for example, in a situation where you have many named (even dynamic) virtual hosts handled by a webserver. The patch includes tests for both Wildcard A Records, and Wildcard CNAME Records. Any comments are appreciated. If no one (read: exarkun) disapproves I'll go ahead and commit this.

[Twisted-Python] Query output from pyPgSQL via Perspective Broker, how?

This is a pyPgSQL-Twisted mixed question, I post it here because I recently saw Gerard Haering posting, hi Gerard. :-) I'm trying to remotely send the PostgreSQL query output from pyPgSQL via Perspective Broker, and finding it difficult to prevent all the InsecureJelly exceptions. I'm trying to avoid modifying hundreds of already written queries, and I'm patching pyPgSQL instead (albeit at runtime). A first problem is that the make_PgResultSetClass factory function dinamically builds a subclass of the PgResultSet class, making it impossible to statically subclass it with pb.Copyable and pb.RemoteCopy . I worked around that making the make_PgResultSetClass return an object of the PgResultSet class, instead of a new subclass. This seems to work. Now I'm fighting against all the pyPgSQL special types. I'm changing the typecast method in the TypeCache class to return only standard types, and while it works fine for number and strings, it seems that mx.DateTime and PG_INET values are not intercepted. I convert the mx.DateTime and mx.DateTimeDelta instances into standard datetime and timedelta ones, since the Twisted docs says PB already knows those. I also added a check for PG_INET, returning str(value) in that case. I'm still getting InsecureJelly exceptions for these two data types, though. I feel like I'm following the tough road doing this, maube there's a simpler way of achieving what I need. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
