[Twisted-Python] pb server how to get client IP address

Hi I am making a game server using twisted and using the pb both on the server and client. I have a question on how to get ip address of the clients that connects to the server. I want to log the client ip address on the server. Have anyone any idea on how to do this I cant find any information on this in the api documents. [Twisted-Python] EXIT CGI kludge Sanity Check

We inherited this Apache/CGI app, with ~15 HTML pages, generated by CGI Python scripts importing a ton of modules each time. Not exactly lightning fast, plus the code's a total mix of Python with HTML fragments :( Awaiting a complete revamp of the app, we replaced Apache/CGI with a threaded Twisted TCP server, sitting memory-resident with "everything" imported, and sending back HTML as requested by javascript/tiny applet in the browser. Form <INPUT>s and cookies are passed from javascript to Python as text-represented dictionaries. The modifications to the Python code were minor; the performance boost is ... dramatic (the users are cheering). Comments? Anyone done something similar? What do we tell the purists? Again, I could be taking the wrong approach: Here is the scenerao: 1) Why the pooling Each compute node can run 2 processes at the same time (big processes) The compute node must accept more jobs then it can run, and hold the waiting tasks in a queue. (logically similar problem to database connections, except, compute connections are used instead). 2) why not spawnProcess The code said that spawnprocess is broken on windows. (I could be looking in the wrong place, twisted is a big codebase :-) I fell back to using popen2 in a thead managed by the "thread pool" I am always open to refactoring a design. Windows is my prime platform, but I also must support the UNIX platforms. [Twisted-Python] Beepy Twisted Library

After reading the emails on the list I downloaded the Beepy Twisted BEEP library. I read the included docs, and looked at the test cases. I had a server and client up in less than an hour. Thank you for your work on this package. I am going to spend more time prototyping today. I like the development style: - simple short tests - test cases that serve as models for code development FYI. I am running Python2.3 on Windows, so I had to download PyOpenSSL from: This should be a very popular protocol for people developing peer-to-peer solutions. Thank you for your good work, Beepy is being used!!!!!!! Mike PS. The test cases were very valuable. If you have to choose between more docs and more testcases/examples. my +1 would be for more test cases/examples

[Twisted-Python] What is the "Twisted" way to kill stuck child process

Hello All, I am making real progress with twisted. Thank you very much for the great project. I am creating a process launcher that runs on SGI, SUN, IBM AIX, HPUX, and windows 2000 and XP. I modified the adbapi.py file to pool jobs. It works great. Problem: Sometimes the launched c program will hang. (standard exe file). I want to launch a process with timeout value. Ex. I know that task X usually take 1200 seconds to run, but it will sometimes hang. If the exe has not finished running after 1500 seconds, I want to kill the job and notify the caller that their job timed out. What are some options for implementing this with twisted. NOTE: each process is launched in its own thread, so killing the thread is an option is that is required. [Twisted-Python] Why twisted.internet.error.TimeoutError and twisted.internet.defer.TimeoutError?

I realise there's arguments that you want to be able to distinguish between the two, so having a DeferredTimeoutError and a regular TimeoutError would make sense, but it would still seem that you'd want them to have a common base-class that lets you catch them together. As far as operating systems go, I'm fairly certain that Twisted will run on any operating system on which Python will run. I don't know of any processor requirements; the only thing that's really required is Python.

Hi Cory, You're probably very right; I'm sure I am confused. I'm only the Tech who installs this once to make sure it will in Win2K and is compatible with our Network. In that capacity, I install software to be evaluated onto a test box solely to ensure the program is compatible with Windows 2000 and our Network. Once that's established, the program is installed to the user's computer (preferably another test computer) for the user-level evaluation that only the actual user of the program can do. I've downloaded Twisted-1.1.1.win32-py2.3.exe for eval from your website and also need some information for my eval sheet. I checked your site, but couldn't find the following technical specifications / requirements I need. Can you supply, or point me to this information, please? Operating Systems supported Type Processor required Memory requirements Hard Drive space required Other Hardware and Software requirements Is there also a more compact, simpler definition of the program; and a simple list of functions?
