[Twisted-Python] [Conch] anyone using twisted.conch.ssh.session.SSHSession directly?

I'm working on tests for t.c.s.session.SSHSession, and it's difficult because of the terrible API SSHSession currently has. I've tried a rewrite in branches/session-2710, but I wanted to know if anyone was actually using that class directly? The typical use case is writing an Avatar->ISession adapter, and if you're doing it that way nothing should change for you even with this update. In short, let me know if you're using twisted.conch.ssh.session.SSHSession directly and I need to keep it backwards compatible. [Twisted-Python] What does soap.Proxy.callRemote() do that simple client.getPage() doesn't ?

Hi! I have two similar implementation of senders, one using HTTP "PUT" and the other SOAP (and a put operation). The core of the soap sender are the lines: proxy = soap.Proxy(recv) return proxy.callRemote('put',data) While the HTTP one uses: return client.getPage(recv, method="PUT", postdata=data, headers=headers) Basically soap.Proxy.callRemote() uses client.getPage() though with the method POST instead of PUT. So there are some clear similarities here. Now, I also have a dispatcher which uses either of these senders depending on various reasons. The crux is that when there is a continuous flow of data leaving by HTTP "PUT" I see no problems, while when the same happens for SOAP, after a while I see complains about "twisted.internet.error.ConnectBindError: Couldn't bind: 24: Too many open files.". I guess files in this instance equates to internet connections. If so, is that because soap.Proxy.callRemote() doesn't close down the connections in the same way as a direct call to client.getPage() does ? There is obviously something I don't understand here. Anyone that can enlighten me ? And tell me how to get rid of the connections. Running Twisted 2.5.0 -- Roland

[Twisted-Python] Implementing streaming (broadcast) TCP servers

I'm working on a server that will be streaming the same data from a source to many clients. It has to be invoked from an HTTP server, so I'm using twisted.web2 (not twisted.web because it also needs to host a WSGI application). In other words, calling GET on a certain path results in the stream as the response, at which point I don't really need any more HTTP functionality. I have it working... currently, the basic process is: I have a class implementing IByteStream, an instance of which is created for each client; it simply keeps a queue of data to be sent, sending one piece with each call to read(), or a sending a Deferred if the queue is empty. Meanwhile, the part of the application that provides the data (a different server, receiving data from a broadcaster) adds the data to all the clients' byte stream queues, whenever it receives a piece of data. Since efficiency is obviously important for a streaming server, I was just wondering if anyone had any efficiency tips. I've tested it with at most 64 concurrent clients. There doesn't seem to be any slowdown from the clients' perspective (the data is coming in at the rate it should), but server-side, CPU and memory usage start increasing pretty quickly. Especially CPU -- with 64 clients, CPU usage peaked at 26.8%, which is not acceptable. Any thoughts? Is there a better way to handle the streaming process as I previously described? - Adam

According to the Twisted tracker, I currently have 142 tickets. Many of these are simply because I'm the default assignee of the default "core" component, so almost all new tickets end up in my list. It's getting to the point where I don't even have time to triage all the tickets assigned to me, let alone work on them. If anyone is looking for stuff to do to help out Twisted, triaging all of the 'normal', 'core' tickets assigned to me would be a big help. Not only would it circulate tickets to more appropriate people to be working on them than me, it will also generally make me feel less discouraged when I look at the apparently infinite amount of work I have to do.

I would like to build a server that when it gets a message on a specific port it will "forward" that message to another port. I.e. "Server1" listens on port 10000. When it gets data on port 10000 it will forward the data to "Server2" listening on port 15000. Edgar

Hi everybody, I'm new to ldaptor and twisted. I don't really understand how twisted work and how can I build a little application with them. I would like to make a mini app which offers me the possibility to administrate very simply my ldap server. Then, the app have to wait for orders, and when it receive one, treat it by sending the appropriate request via ldaptor. My problem is with twisted, and more precisely with the "reactor". I don't really understand how I can manipulate it and what is the place of defered's in all that? Thanks, Julien.

[Twisted-Python] twisted.conch.telnet example?

Hello all. :) I'm trying to learn Twisted, and to replace irritating telnetlib code for a simple telnet client application to do so. The problem is I'm slightly lost as to where to start with the twisted.conch.telnet library, so was wondering if anyone could point me to a simple example. So far, I understand the whole client factory thing-- but where I start getting lost is where we get to the "protocol" point (I know I know-- so early to get confused!). Specifically, in the buildProtocol method of a ReconnectingClientFactory instance.. what should I be returning a subclass of? There's a telnet.Telnet, which /looks/ like it would be handling all of the telnet negotiation nicely, but it has methods like "def enableRemote" that call "self.protocol.enableRemote".. and I'm not sure what should be put there, or how that should have been handled. My best success so far was to have it return a subclass of telnet.StatefulTelnetProtocol. It does the "basis" of what I want: a line-oriented output from the telnet protocol connection. However, it also returns all the negotiation characters, so it seems like it's not actually implementing the telnet negotiation part itself. Then there's telnet.TelnetBootstrapProtocol which looks very interesting but looks like its mostly handling telnet features I'm not interested in (various line modes, screen size negotiation, etc) yet... and a telnet.TelnetProtocol that I'm very confused by.. it's inheriting from ITelnetProtocol which appears to define the basic negotiation methods, but it doesn't appear to -do- anything. (And telnet.Telnet, which does notinherit from that interface, does appear to support -doing- the negotiation) This might all be a lot of babbling, and if so-- sorry! I'm just not sure where to get started on understanding what's going on in this module to make use of it. :) I tried googling around to see if I could find a simple display of gluing the conch modules together to produce a line-oriented telnet client connection that appeared to handle the negotiation ... just to get started-- and I can't find one. Does anyone know of one? (Or, if I give you $0.25, could you throw one together? :)) Thanks in advance. --S

Has anyone found an easy to apply patch for pydoc that will list the documentation for classes that use implements().
