[Twisted-Python] ANN: MV3D version 0.42 released

I’m pleased to announce the release of MV3D version 0.42. In this version, the core systems were made ready for tool building and content creation. This included a redesigned datastore and a cross system GUI layout. MV3D is an open source virtual world simulation framework written in Python which uses Twisted for networking. It was designed with scalability in mind and aims to be able to distribute a world across as many servers as needed with dynamic load balancing. The simulation framework is not specifically slanted towards any one genre of online game, and can just as easily be used for a space game as a fantasy setting. On the client, Python-Ogre is used for rendering. More info on MV3D including source code and Windows client binaries is available at http://www.mv3d.com. MV3D is released under the MIT license. [Twisted-Python] Reassigned tickets

Hi there, I notice that several tickets have been reassigned to me in the last few days, without comment or explanation. While confused for a bit at first, I eventually figured that since I've been trying to resolve some of the easier deprecation tickets, someone has probably decided to assign some other deprecation tickets to me. However, I have also gotten a couple of tickets I do not know what to do with - for instance, http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/4162, which has a different author and is awaiting a response to review feedback. I also do not know what to do with a ticket such as like http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/2661. It has a simple summary and description, but also a comment about the nuances of method naming and possibly API consistency, which I as a new contributor I feel that I lack the experience and authority to weigh in on. I do not mind having tickets assigned to me, but an explanation or simple comment would have been nice, especially if the ticket already has an author. I'd also like to have some consensus or documentation about what to do with tickets (assigned to me or no) with comments I do not know how to interpret - should I be implementing the change as described in the comment, if I do not recognize the commenter as a core developer? What if there are several comments with disagreements as to how best to resolve the issue? Perhaps these tickets should be put into a separate queue or have a keyword assigned to them to signal their limbo state? Thanks! -Ying

[Twisted-Python] Twisted Names too many open files...resolv.conf

Hi Guys, Is there anyway to prevent twisted.names.client.createResolver() from creating a resolvconf resolver, when servers= is passed? The use here doesn't need the resolv.conf resolvers (and actually really doesn't want them). What appears to be occurring is that repeated use of createResolver() exhausts the number of allowed open files because resolv.conf is never closed: exceptions.IOError: [Errno 24] Too many open files: '/etc/resolv.conf' Any advice is greatly appreciated. -J

[Twisted-Python] Multiple clients

Hy, Can somebody send me a small example how to use multiple clients at same time? For example to connect to 3 different IMAP server. I need this because I'm working on an email client engine. I can connect to POP/IMAP/SMTP server to download and send messages, but I have created those methods separated, and each time when I check for new messages or send a message I use reactor.run() and reactor.stop(). But calling it multiple times is a problem. So I need something: - when I press button1, the application checks for new messages on POP server. - when I press button2, the application checks for new messages on IMAP server. I know how to check for messages on IMAP/POP server, but I don't know how to do it periodically with twisted... I hope you understand what I'm trying to explain :}} Thanks in advance Szabolcs Balogh

[Twisted-Python] Punching a firewall with Twisted?

Dear 'Twisted' experts! I have a quick question that I am sure one of you guys can answer easily: What I want to do is open an incoming port on the router that connects my computer to the Internet. More precisely, I want my Python app do that automatically. In other words, this is about punching a hole into a firewall. I know that this is possible because there are applications that do that. Deluge does this, and Deluge uses Twisted. So I have tried to find out how/where Deluge tells Twisted to do this, but the Deluge sources are quite sizey, and I haven't found that particular needle in the haystack yet. [Twisted-Python] Getting at the underlying issue in a DNSServerError failure.

Hi Guys, What is the best way to get at the underlying issue (i.e. non-responsive name server, NXDOMAIN, SERVFAIL, etc.) when receiving a twisted.names.error.DNSServerError? I'm issuing a resolver.lookupNameservers() BTW. The failure received by the errback generates this for failure.getErrorMessage() : <twisted.names.dns.Message instance at 0x101272908> Traceback prints: twisted.names.error.DNSServerError: <twisted.names.dns.Message instance at 0x101272908> So overall, not very specific. Any help is appreciated. -J
