I've just put the fancy new logging branch into review that wsanchez and I have been working on for several months now. It's pretty big, and we've had difficulty with reviewing large changes in the past, so I suggested a novel review strategy: <https://twistedmatrix.com/trac/ticket/6750#comment:36> I am hopeful that this can provide the benefits of reviewing a whole feature all at once, which is to say, the ability for a reviewer to understand all of the changes in context, and also the benefits of reviewing a sensibly-sized change, since we took some care to split the new logging package into, if not bite-sized, at least meal-sized separate private implementation modules. Let me know if there's anything we can do to make this easier to review, -glyph

[Twisted-Python] Maximum number of SSL connections to the server

Hi all, I am doing load testing on my twisted SSL server. I spawn threads(~2000) from the application and each thread will act as a SSL client and connect to the server. Client code is straight forward. It creates a socket, does SSL wrap and connects to the server. Once all threads connect to the server, every thread closes its socket. During my initial tests, I found that after 245 successful connections, all remaining threads started to fail with this error on the client side. *SSLError: [Errno 8] _ssl.c:503: EOF occurred in violation of protocol* Then I figured out that its an issue with number of open files which was by default - 256. I changed the limit for server and client to 10000. It successfully completed the 500 connections test. Now it fails after 1010 successful connections. I checked the number of open files of the server process it remains at 1010 and there are no stale open files. Client shows the same error *SSLError: [Errno 8] _ssl.c:503: EOF occurred in violation of protocol* Twisted logs on the server shows that it connects first and then disconnects with this error. *<127.0.0.1:5549 <http://127.0.0.1:5549>> connected* *<127.0.0.1:55249 <http://127.0.0.1:55249>> lost connection: [('SSL routines', 'SSL23_READ', 'ssl handshake failure')]* How can I fix this ? [Twisted-Python] Exit all threads upon KeyboardInterrupt

Hi, I want to exit my application immediately when CTRL+C is pressed, however reactor hangs when there are running threads. Some of these threads have blocking I/O, so I can't simply set a variable or wait for them to terminate. An example application would be: from twisted.internet import reactor, threads from time import sleep import signal def do(): try: sleep(10) except KeyboardInterrupt: print "interrupt!" #def cleanup(signum, stackframe): def cleanup(): d.cancel() reactor.callFromThread(reactor._stopThreadPool) reactor.callFromThread(reactor.stop) if __name__ == '__main__': d = threads.deferToThread(do) #signal.signal(signal.SIGINT, cleanup) reactor.addSystemEventTrigger('before', 'shutdown', cleanup) reactor.run() How can I achieve this? - John

Suppose I have a chat room application using perspective broker. Users log in with their credentials and gain access to some kind of lobby showing all available chat rooms. Now suppose entry into each chat room is precluded by another log in step. How do I implement that? [Twisted-Python] Twisted names client.getHostbyName dual-stack operation

Hello, I've tried to use Twisted names.client.getHostByName() method to resolve some addresses for my UDP based app. By default getHostByName() always returns IPv6 address. I don't always have end-to-end IPv6 connectivity, so it often causes communication to fail. I've found a solution to override this behavior with monkey patching [1]. After Twisted 13.2 announcement I've checked the new HostnameEndpoint implementation to find possible solution (it seems to be dedicated to solve similar problems, but for TCP-based protocols). However it seems to use deferToThread(), and built-in Python getaddrinfo(). My questions: 1. Is using deferToThread() a preferred solution? 2. Hello, I have a code path similar to: if Twisted has IPv6: # do this else: # do that I came up with this: Using 'getattr' to get a function which wouldn't exist if there was no IPv6 address as follows: >>> from twisted.internet import abstract >>> getattr(abstract, 'isIPv6Address') <function isIPv6Address at 0x171a488> Is there a more reliable way (which works with the Twisted-8.0+) to check this? Hello! A code snippet implementing retrying calls got posted on this list in November of 2009, here's the thread in question: http://twistedmatrix.com/pipermail/twisted-python/2009-November/020818.html I wanted to use that snippet (slightly changed and with unit tests added) in txpostgres, the Postgres driver for Twisted - http://github.com/wulczer/txpostgres/ Now, txpostres is MIT-licensed and before going ahead and incorporating that code, I'd like to make sure its license is compatible, I've taken the liberty of CC'ing Terry but perhaps someone else could also chime in. [Twisted-Python] Filing Bugs

I'd like to file a bug, but the site requires a login. I'm sure I've registered before, but don't remember my username or password. Neither the "login" link or "Register" link has any information about how to reset a password. Nor is it present on the home page, or in the FAQ. ...although the Register link does state that: "Entering an email address will enable you to reset your password if you ever forget it." (I'm pretty sure I did enter an email address when I registered ages ago) I assume there's something obvious that I'm missing, but it's flying below my visual radar, because I've tried looking everywhere on the site. I give up...can someone point me to the page/link where I can reset my password (to http://twistedmatrix.com - not the mailing list - resetting my password on the mailing list is obvious and straightforward).
