I am plannig to upgrade twisted's buildbot in the near future. In preperation for that, I am going to take down the production buildbot on Tuesday, June 26, around 1600 UTC[1]. During that time, the result of any builds done will be lost. Thus, I'd ask that people avoid committing to trunk during that time. hi there, folks: I'd really like to release 0.7.0 but I would like it to be at least a little bit tested before I do so. Could those of you with CVS trees check everything out and see if it performs as advertised? Deeper bugs than that will have to wait for the next release, but I'd at least like to know if it works for someone other than me. A few months ago, the question of an official process for obtaining commit access was raised. I like that proposal, but it is still incomplete: to wit, it defines a template for how roles might be defined but does not actually define any roles. It also seems to be a bit overly ambitious, just from the observed reaction of nobody having the time to implement it :). So I have a proposal for a scaled back process that nevertheless would give us something official-ish: Not all committers are actively involved in the project at all times, so we should form a "committer committee" of people who are interested in evaluating candidates. If you would like to do that and you're already a committer, please contact me and I'll add you to the list. I want to do this so there's somewhere to apply to which isn't just a public mailing list or discussion, since public discussions can create social pressure to grant someone commit just to be nice, and rejections might be perceived as mean. Candidates should submit an application to this new list, commit(a)twistedmatrix.com <mailto:commit@twistedmatrix.com> which is a list of links to at least 10 tickets, at least 5 of which are patches they've submitted, and at least 5 of which are code reviews they've done which have been accepted by a committer. At least 2 of their authored patches should have gone all the way through the process to be landed. As with the other parts of our process, if there is at least one sponsor, and no objections from anyone on the committee within 7 days, any member of the committee may add the committer. New committers should then be announced on the mailing list. This is not really an ideal process - particularly, it lacks a good way to give contributors something specific and useful to do - but it's something at least. If there is general assent that this is an improvement, I'll go make a wiki page and a mailing list. -glyph

Are there any major disadvantages of using pymongo with callInThread instead of txmongo? I'd like to take advantage of some newer features in pymongo (unfortunately not available in txmongo) and it's certainly easier to maintain feature parity using callInThread. Clayton Daley

Hi, I've installed Twisted 15.3.0 on Ubuntu 14.04LTS. Excellent work but there's one problem bothering me for a long time: twisted.mail.imap4.IMAP4Client.fetchMessage always throws exception and the exception occured at random, e.g. somtimes the exception occured when the program read the 120th mail, sometimes it occured at the 150th or 200th mail. [Twisted-Python] twisted compatibility with multiprocessing module in fork+execv mode

I know the multiprocessing module is not properly supported by twisted apps because of the interactions among duplicated file descriptors and signal handling, as discussed other times. But python 3.4 introduces a new mode to use that module by spawning (i.e. fork() followed by execv()) the new processes instead of simply forking it. So my question is how supported this is by twisted, and in general how safe it is to use subprocesses created by duplicating the parent immediately followed by the execv of a fresh interpreter. What i'm thinking is something like this, to asynchronously process requests and delegate the cpu-bound work to some processes: import multiprocessing def worker(q): while True: work = q.get() do_something_cpu_bound_with(work) def main(): context = multiprocessing.get_context('spawn') q = context.Queue() p = context.Process(target=worker, args=(q,)) p.start() q.put_nowait(work) # when async requests are made if __name__ == '__main__': from twisted.internet import reactor reactor.callWhenRunning(main) reactor.run()

The other day I was experimenting with the inlineCallbacks decorator in Twisted 15.4, and occasionally when I'd typo a variable name or similar, I'd get an "unhandled error" in the log without a traceback, which was rather unhelpful.
