[Twisted-Python] Trial - A replacement for pyunit.

Announcing "Trial". In the spirit of "We Invented NIH", Twisted Matrix Labs bring you a replacement for your favourite unit test framework. So what's my excuse? Twisted has already forked pyunit, so in a sense this is nothing new. However, changes made to that forked code-base aren't really that useful to any of our users. To get any of our added value, they'd have to use their own fork of pyunit. Re-writing it gets rid of any nasty copyright issues. Asynchronous unit tests are a challenge. The DeferredTestCase stuff in pyunit.unittest is a start, but not enough. Hopefully, trial will make it easier. The tight coupling of runtests and test_all is kind of ugly. This is no longer necessary in trial. $ ./admin/runtests -t is equivalent to $ ./bin/trial -p twisted.test Oh, I should mention that this wasn't my idea. It's all glyph's fault. Last time I was in DC, I needed an internet connection and looked in the phone book. I found an internet cafe on the same metro line as the Pentagon station. So I trecked over there, only to find that the place shut at 1800! I now am informed that Kinko's copies has reliable internet, and some of then are open 24 hours -- perhaps all of them for all I know. Laura Creighton

Am I just using the wrong tool for browsing local docs, or is this a reasonable thing to want? Hi Glyph and Twisted Gurus, First, thanks for the nice work on jelly, which has been very good to us in our xmlrpc interface development. I was a little apprehensive about how it might react to nesting, but I shouldn't have worried -- it doesn't even break a sweat jellying and unjellying objects with 3 levels of nesting ...! :^) Second: what's the latest twisted thinking on "best practice" for transfering bulk data (aka "file upload") in an xmlrpc or soap context? (Yes, you've given me your thoughts on this before ... just checking to see if there's any new, er, twists ...) Cheers, -- Steve.

This bug has plagued me for some time, but I've only just now managed to track it down to something specific. The attached is a minimal example of how to replicate it. I'll be pondering ways to fix it, but if anyone else has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Optimal solutions will avoid making calls to gc.get_referrers ;) Jp -- Seduced, shaggy Samson snored. [Twisted-Python] Addition to IProcess API

We talked about this on #twisted for a while, I just wanted to run this past the mailing list to make sure no one has any objections. I propose a new method be added to the IProcess API. The method is signalProcess, and will be used to send signals to process's run in the reactor. The method would look something like this: def signalProcess(self, signalID): """ Send a signal to the process. signalID can be: * one of "HUP", "KILL", "STOP", or "INT". These will be implemented in a cross-platform manner, and so should be used if possible. * an integer, where it represents a POSIX signal ID. """ The strings (or something like that) must be used because other than SIGINT, the windows signal module doesn't define the constants.
