[Twisted-Python] eta for an epoll reactor?

I see that the latest Twisted comes with a kqueue reactor. But how about us Linux guys? Will an epoll reactor ever be part of Twisted? -- Cheers, László

[Twisted-Python] Problem with runInteraction and passing a dict variable

Hello, I am both a python and twisted beginner, but I think I have found a problem in twisted. See the code below. The handle_PeerStatus function receives a dict wich contains some info. Then it calls runInteraction with that variable. When the UpdatePeerStatus function is run, block is empty. I did some investigating, it seems that UpdatePeerStatus is run using a workerthread which takes it values from a Queue. When the dict is pushed onto the Queue, it is valid, when when it is popped by the worker thread, the var is empty. Can anybody give me tips to solve this? Am I absolutely missing something and on the wring track or should I enter a bug? [Twisted-Python] Error "reactor already installed" - exact module import order?

Hi everyone, I would be grateful if someone could help me with the error "reactor already installed". I have seen this issue has been discussed previously, but I am not sure how to fix appropriate file so that error does not occur anymore. I am using Twisted Python 2.4.0, as it is packaged by Mandriva. Slightly more relevantly, shouldn't at least the last of these three be assertIdentical(..., None)? It is a common mistake throughout Twisted to test for truth when the real intent is to test against None, so I'm mostly pointing this out in the hopes of reducing new cases of it being introduced in the future. I have developed an internal-use only application using PyQt4 and Twisted and have found the combination to be very effective. Neither one cares about the other being there, and events are processed seamlessly by both, with no threads needed. The only gripe I have is that you can't switch your project over to be licensed under the commercial version of Qt and PyQt4 if it has been developed with the GPL version. It seems to me that PyQt/Qt may be shooting themselves in the foot somewhat with their "start your app. with commercial version or keep it GPL forever" licensing terms. Best regards, Ed

[Twisted-Python] finger tutorial question

Hi, I am pretty new to python and totally new to twisted. From what I read about it, it's perfect for my means. I need to write a background daemon that connects to a port, stays connected, reads information blocks, keeps state, and write to a postgres database occasionally. Also it should accepts connections from GUI clients, that should display the state in a user friendly manner. This looks like a perfect target for Twisted, especially because I want to write the GUI client in wxPython. So I started to follow the tutorial. Nothing too special, apart from the last steps. When making a finger library the tutorial creates a file named organized-finger.tac. This file starts with 'import finger'. The source for this file is described in the tutorial as 'Code (from the module)'. But I don't know where the module is. If I try to use other pieces of code from earlier examples as finger.py I invariably get something like: File "organized-finger.tac", line 13, in ? f = finger.FingerService('/etc/users') exceptions.AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'FingerService' Another thing is the configuration and packaging. The tutorial wants to do: mktap finger --file=/etc/users --ircnick=fingerbot but that throws me Deprecated fatal errors. BTW I am using the official twisted production version 2.4.0. From the subversion version I understand that mktap will cease to exist, but for the moment I am stuck in the last step to complete the example 'correct' application, and start my own work from there. So what am I doing wrong here? Thanks Ron

[Twisted-Python] issues using pb.Copyable

Hello, I am trying to use pb.Copyable to send some python objects back and forth between a client and server. I followed the documentation and quickly got some simple examples working. However i got stuck when i tried sending some python objects which are actually wrappers for stuff written in C. Here is an example of what i am trying to do Class C (Wrapper for a c data structure) Class B (inherits from class C and from pb.Copyable) I have a lot of wrapper functions which give me instances of Class C. Trying to do c_instance.__class__ = B does not work. I somehow need to cast those instances into instances of class B so that the jellying/unjellying can take place. What does one do in such a situation ? Regards, Deepankar
